Jack Mallers steps down as Twenty One CEO after a strategy split, reaffirming his focus on building Strike and Bitcoin payments.

Jack Mallers has stepped down as CEO of Twenty One Capital, ending a brief run at the helm of one of Bitcoin’s most closely watched treasury firms.

The move comes after Mallers said his vision for the company no longer matched the board’s direction.

His public message made one point clear: his work still centers on Bitcoin. For now, Strike remains the company he says he wants to build around.

Twenty One CEO Exit Follows Strategy Split

Mallers framed the departure as a decision tied to direction, not panic. He said he wanted Twenty One to grow into a Bitcoin business with cash flow, not just a balance sheet full of BTC.

That path did not survive the board split. The company moved closer to a treasury-only model, while Mallers pushed for operating businesses built around Bitcoin payments and services.

Twenty One confirmed the leadership change on July 20, 2026. Board member Raphael Zagury replaced Mallers as CEO effective immediately.

The shift matters because Twenty One had already become a major Bitcoin treasury name.

Its stock also reacted sharply after the news, showing how tightly the market ties the firm to its leadership story.

Strike Stays Separate After Merge Plans Change

Strike now sits outside the Twenty One structure. That marks a turn from earlier merger talks that had linked Twenty One, Strike, and Elektron Energy in one larger Bitcoin platform.

Those plans no longer appear active. The latest update keeps Strike independent, with Mallers returning his full attention to the payments company he founded.

Strike focuses on Bitcoin payments, remittances, merchant tools, and treasury infrastructure. That makes it different from a pure Bitcoin holding company.

For Mallers, the split restores a cleaner lane. He no longer has to divide time between a public treasury firm and his private payments business.

What the Bitcoin Market Is Watching Next

Investors will now watch how Twenty One operates under Zagury. The company still holds a large Bitcoin position, so its strategy will continue to matter for crypto markets.

The bigger question sits with Strike. Mallers has tied his future to the platform, which keeps it separate from Twenty One and free from the board fight.

That could help him move faster on product decisions. It also removes the scale that a merged structure might have brought.

For crypto readers, the story is simple. One of Bitcoin’s best known builders has left a public treasury post and returned to the company he started.
