XRP and Solana are two of the largest cryptocurrencies outside Bitcoin and Ethereum. Both are attracting institutional interest, but they are built for very different purposes.
XRP was designed for cross-border payments and institutional settlement. Solana is a broader platform supporting decentralized exchanges, stablecoins, tokenized assets and consumer applications.
Valuation Breakdown
XRP’s market cap is around $69 billion. Solana sits at roughly $45 billion. By that measure, XRP is the more valuable network.
But the fully diluted valuation tells a different story. XRP’s FDV is approximately $111 billion because around 38 billion tokens are still not in circulation. Solana has roughly 583 million of its 631 million total tokens already circulating, making its FDV much closer to its market cap.
That gives Solana a cleaner valuation structure. XRP has no traditional inflation since all 100 billion tokens were minted at launch, but the remaining supply still creates dilution concerns.
Institutional Activity
Both networks have been pulling in institutional players recently.
Ripple joined J.P. Morgan’s Kinexys, Mastercard and Ondo Finance in a pilot that demonstrated near-real-time redemption of a tokenized U.S. Treasury fund issued on the XRP Ledger. Part of the settlement still passed through traditional banking infrastructure.
On the Solana side, J.P. Morgan arranged the issuance of $50 million in commercial paper for Galaxy Digital directly on the network. Coinbase and Franklin Templeton participated as buyers. The security was issued and redeemed onchain using USDC.
Solana also accounted for 97% of cumulative onchain tokenized-equity spot volume, according to the Solana Foundation.
Ecosystem Size and Risk
Solana’s ecosystem data from May showed real-world assets on the network topping $2.8 billion and stablecoin supply reaching approximately $16.4 billion.
XRP’s strength is its focused use case. Payments, remittances and institutional settlement are clear and understood. Ripple has also been expanding into custody, stablecoins and tokenized financial assets.
Solana carries more volatility. Its valuation depends on sustained network activity, developer adoption and stablecoin growth. A drop in trading activity could weaken demand for the token.
XRP may offer a steadier thesis for conservative investors. Its payments focus is straightforward and its maximum supply is fixed.
For investors willing to accept more volatility, Solana has more active growth engines across stablecoins, tokenization and institutional finance. Solana also holds a cleaner fully diluted valuation and stronger ecosystem momentum heading into the second half of 2025.
