Mirae Asset has completed its acquisition of South Korean crypto exchange Korbit and renamed it Digital X. The move places Digital X at the center of the group’s digital asset strategy focused on tokenized finance. Moreover, the company plans to expand beyond exchange services by integrating traditional finance with blockchain-based investment products.

Digital X Becomes Mirae Asset’s Digital Asset Platform

Mirae Asset completed its acquisition of a controlling stake in Korbit after receiving regulatory approval in South Korea. The transaction increased ownership to 97.15% through Mirae Asset Consulting. The exchange now operates under the new Digital X brand.

The rebranding supports Mirae Asset’s broader Mirae Asset 3.0 strategy for digital finance. Digital X will combine the group’s financial expertise with Korbit’s digital asset operations. The company aims to build a unified investment platform instead of a trading-focused exchange.

The new strategy targets real-world asset tokenization, security token offerings, stablecoins, and connected investment products. Digital X will also support services linking traditional financial assets with blockchain-based assets. As a result, Mirae Asset plans to position the platform as financial infrastructure rather than a conventional cryptocurrency marketplace.

Digital X Focuses on Compliance and Long-Term Growth

Mirae Asset stated that Digital X will strengthen research, education, and market intelligence alongside trading services. The company intends to create an intelligent investment platform serving both institutional and retail market participants. Furthermore, it plans to combine investment knowledge with digital asset infrastructure under one platform.

The group identified compliance as a central operating principle across every business function. Digital X will maintain anti-money laundering controls, know-your-customer verification, fraud detection systems, and information security standards. The company plans to align operations with South Korea’s evolving digital asset regulations.

Mirae Asset also confirmed that existing Korbit customers will continue using current services without interruption. Trading, deposits, withdrawals, and account access will remain unchanged after the ownership transition. Customer assets will also remain separated from company funds under the Virtual Asset User Protection Act.

Acquisition Expands Traditional Finance Into Digital Assets

Mirae Asset said the acquisition extends beyond increasing market share in South Korea’s cryptocurrency sector. Instead, the company intends to build an integrated financial ecosystem through Digital X. The strategy combines traditional investment services with digital asset infrastructure and tokenized financial products.

The company also confirmed that it has no immediate plans to purchase the remaining minority shares. Instead, management will prioritize strengthening Digital X through product development, education, and operational improvements. The group believes long-term competitiveness depends on infrastructure instead of trading volume alone.

Korbit entered the market in 2013 as South Korea’s first cryptocurrency exchange. However, the platform currently holds less than one percent of the domestic crypto trading market behind larger competitors. Even so, Mirae Asset expects Digital X to support its long-term expansion into tokenized finance as digital assets become increasingly integrated with mainstream financial services.
