South Korea’s largest trading company, POSCO International, has partnered with LG CNS and blockchain network Injective (INJ) to tokenize real trade receivables from international commerce, marking a significant step in enterprise blockchain adoption.
The proof of concept (PoC) relies on the actual receivables generated by POSCO International’s foreign subsidiaries and their counterparties. Unlike blockchain simulations that have been done previously, this PoC involves the digitalization of actual invoices and payments, thereby enabling businesses to tokenize, trade, manage, and pay off commercial assets using blockchain.

POSCO Modernizes Trade Finance With Blockchain
The financing of trade is fundamental to world business, but it suffers from a lack of efficiency. Billions of dollars pass through international trade annually, but the process itself remains disjointed, involving banks, suppliers, buyers, insurance companies, and subsidiaries in a network of separate systems.
These processes have to be checked manually, causing delays in action and delaying payment beyond its due time.
Through the use of blockchain technology for receivables, POSCO International and LG CNS aim at creating a common ledger. The common ledger will allow authorized users to track ownership, transaction history, and the process of settlement. This method ensures higher transparency, reduced costs of operation, and more effective management of working capital for companies.

Injective Provides Institutional Blockchain Infrastructure
Injective is selected to be the underlying blockchain of the pilot because of its focus on financial use cases and tokenizing real-life assets. The blockchain offers mechanisms for managing permissions, compliance, and assets that are tailored specifically for institutional users.
Whereas traditional DLT simply tokenizes the assets, Injective enables companies to embed governance within the assets themselves, including ownership details, asset transfer rules, and approval requirements for transfers. As a result, it is possible to manage blockchain financial instruments within regulated systems.
AI and Blockchain Transform Trade Operations
The project combines blockchain and AI to optimize trade processes. POSCO International and LG CNS have launched an experimental use of intelligent machines to review letters of credit and detect any errors prior to payment. This is being done to reduce labor intensity, enhance accuracy, and improve the efficiency of the payment process.
LG CNS, an IT division of the LG Group, will bring their extensive experience in enterprise blockchains to the development. By supporting the CBDC project of South Korea and developing financial blockchain projects, the firm emphasizes one basic principle: linking blockchain networks with existing corporate systems is crucial for mass adoption.
Future of Blockchain-Powered Trade Finance
The joint effort by POSCO International and LG CNS is a watershed moment, as asset tokenization moves from hypothetical to tangible as real assets become part of the process. Despite challenges such as regulatory approvals, international compliance, and institutional participation, the pilot project represents an important step towards blockchain-based trade finance.
