What to know:
- Bitcoin price has outperformed Ethereum in recent TradingView comparison data.
- Ethereum open interest increased from roughly $22 billion to nearly $28 billion during July.
- Improving risk sentiment is supporting both Bitcoin and Ethereum despite diverging performance trends.

Bitcoin price continues to outperform Ethereum, even as activity in Ethereum derivatives markets increases. At press time, Bitcoin price was trading around $65,000, while Ethereum remained slightly above $1,950.
New statistics show the divergence in the performance of the two most popular cryptocurrencies, as Bitcoin outperformed Ethereum in relative price performance at the same time as Ethereum increased significantly in terms of open interest.

Bitcoin Price Shows Stronger Relative Performance
The comparison made by TradingView indicated that Bitcoin depreciated by about 29.77% for the period under consideration, whereas the decline of Ethereum stood at practically 41.96%.
This difference in performance confirms that Bitcoin performed better in attracting investor demand, even in unfavorable market conditions.
The market participants paid more attention to Bitcoin than Ethereum, allowing Bitcoin to preserve more of its value despite broader weakness in the crypto market.

Bitcoin Price Diverges From Derivatives Activity
CoinGlass data indicates that Bitcoin’s open interest has been relatively constant, fluctuating between $45 billion and $49 billion over the last month. This rise in open interest alongside relatively stable price action suggests that traders continue to maintain positions in Bitcoin derivatives.
The situation regarding Ethereum is different. Its open interest rose from $22 billion early in the month to almost $28 billion at the end of July. This demonstrates faster growth in Ethereum open interest than that of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin Price Gains Support From Macro Sentiment
The overall market sentiment has been bolstered by a recent update showing Bitcoin above “$65,000“, Ethereum above “$1,950“, while “Nasdaq futures is up 1.37%” and “S&P futures is up 0.87%“.
Lower oil prices add to these favorable conditions.
These developments matter because cryptocurrencies are among the assets that often benefit when market participants become more willing to take risk. Stronger sentiment in traditional markets can spill over into digital assets, supporting both Bitcoin and Ethereum.
What Bitcoin Price and Ethereum Activity Mean for Traders
At the moment, Bitcoin holds first place in relative price strength, whereas Ethereum has experienced more growth in terms of derivatives activity.
If rising ETH open interest is accompanied by stronger spot market demand, Ethereum might reduce the performance gap with Bitcoin.
For now, Bitcoin remains the stronger performer in terms of price action, while Ethereum’s open interest suggests that traders are positioning for potentially larger market moves ahead.
Cryptocurrency markets remain highly volatile, and traders should monitor price action, market sentiment, and upcoming catalysts before making investment decisions.
