Tether Expands Africa Push With NSE Tokenization

Established in 1954, the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) is one of Africa’s leading financial markets, offering equities, debt securities, and derivatives trading. With a market capitalization of around $26.4 billion, NSE supports Kenya’s economic growth by connecting companies with investors.

As a result of the collaboration, Tether and NSE will investigate the blockchain infrastructure that uses distributed ledger technology (DLT). The project will look at the role of Hadron in the tokenization of securities and how it leads to quick settlements, transparency, and fractional investing.

Digital Asset Education and Settlement Innovation

The collaboration will see the inclusion of education on digital assets through workshops and training sessions aimed at NSE brokers and retail traders. The objective is to increase blockchain knowledge while enabling participants to learn about the potential and pitfalls of new technology.

Tether and NSE will also work on secure methods of onboarding that will conform to Kenya’s regulation policies in terms of know-your-customer and anti-money laundering requirements. Moreover, the two companies will evaluate USD₮ for use as a settlement layer.

Tether’s Expanding Role in Africa’s Digital Economy

The collaboration between the NSE and Tether is in line with its bigger mission of increasing adoption of blockchain technology and digital assets in Africa.

This year, the firm has already collaborated with UNODC to increase cybersecurity awareness, prevent digital asset scams, and increase blockchain adoption in safe ways.

Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO, noted that the deal is part of the company’s strategy to promote digital assets in institutions by having clear and efficient financial systems. The CEO of the NSE, Frank Mwiti, added that this deal fits with the 2025 to 2029 vision of the NSE.

The next stage would involve trying out pilot projects and finding blockchain-based solutions. If all goes well, it would not only enhance Nairobi’s reputation as a blockchain hub but also showcase how digital assets can transform conventional financial markets.
