Samsung SDS plans to expand AI infrastructure capacity beyond 800 megawatts by 2031
Samsung SDS advanced 0.71% to close at ₩198,700 after giving back most early gains. However, the stock ended near its intraday low despite stronger quarterly revenue and expanding cloud demand. Dunamu cooperation plans added a fresh digital asset catalyst to the company’s broader technology growth strategy.

Samsung SDS Co., Ltd. (018260.KS)
Samsung SDS plans to develop stablecoin infrastructure with Dunamu, operator of South Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit. The companies are also reviewing next-generation payments and financial system integration services for virtual assets. Samsung SDS expects the partnership to combine blockchain operations with its cloud, security, data, and enterprise technology services.
The company described its Dunamu stake as a strategic entry into the digital asset infrastructure market. Samsung SDS acquired a 1% holding after Samsung affiliates completed the broader investment in May. Samsung Securities bought 2%, while Samsung Card acquired another 1% of Dunamu.
The three Samsung companies paid 612.8 billion won for a combined 4% stake. They bought 1.39 million shares from Kakao-related entities under the completed transaction. Samsung SDS now plans to turn the investment into practical payment, security, and infrastructure products.
Cloud Growth Supports Second-Quarter Results
Samsung SDS reported second-quarter revenue of 3.7178 trillion won, up 5.9% from a year earlier. Operating profit increased 0.7% to 231.8 billion won during the same period. Meanwhile, net profit rose 4.6% to 184.1 billion won.
IT services revenue reached 1.7625 trillion won, representing annual growth of 5%. Cloud revenue climbed 17% to 779.4 billion won and led the segment’s expansion. External cloud revenue increased 75% as public agencies and corporate customers raised demand.
Cloud service provider revenue grew 24% through higher Samsung Cloud Platform demand and broader GPU service deployments. Cloud management service revenue also increased 17% during the quarter. Financial sector transformation projects and shipbuilding ERP contracts supported that growth.
Infrastructure Expansion Broadens Digital Strategy
Samsung SDS continues to expand computing capacity for artificial intelligence and digital financial services. The company currently operates about 110 megawatts of related infrastructure. It plans to raise capacity to 230 megawatts by 2029.
Samsung SDS expects total capacity to exceed 800 megawatts by 2031, including design and operating projects. The company also joined a government program supporting GPU acquisition, construction, and operations. It recently launched an NPU service using FuriosaAI’s Renegade processor.
The company has secured artificial intelligence projects with Woori Bank and the Export-Import Bank of Korea. It also maintains technology partnerships with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google Cloud. These capabilities will support stablecoin systems, payment networks, and virtual asset infrastructure development.
