Shiba Inu (SHIB) Outflows Surge 62% in Hours: What’s Behind It?

Shiba Inu has recorded a sharp spike in exchange outflows, with the seven-day moving average of exchange outflows jumping by nearly 62% over a short period. The sudden increase comes as SHIB attempts to stabilize after one of its most volatile trading sessions this month, suggesting that a growing number of investors are moving tokens away from centralized exchanges.

Shiba Inu’s acceleration is yet to complete

According to the latest on-chain metrics, the Exchange Outflow (MA7) indicator climbed to approximately 630.8 billion SHIB, representing a 5.9% daily increase and roughly a 62% acceleration compared to the levels seen just hours earlier. Rising outflows are generally interpreted as a reduction in immediately available selling supply, since tokens transferred to private wallets are less likely to be sold in the near term.

However, the broader on-chain picture remains mixed. Exchange reserves also edged higher to roughly 87 trillion SHIB, while total exchange netflows posted a modest increase. Active addresses and receiving addresses improved slightly as well, indicating that network activity has picked up alongside the recent burst in volatility rather than collapsing after it.

The price chart tells a similar story of conflicting signals. SHIB recently staged an explosive breakout, briefly surging toward the 200-day moving average before quickly giving back a significant portion of those gains. The long upper wick on the daily candle highlights aggressive profit-taking, as traders sold into strength immediately after the rally.

Shiba Inu holds it together

At the time of writing, SHIB is trading around $0.00000462, holding above both the 50-day and 100-day moving averages despite the sharp retracement. That is an encouraging development, as those averages have started acting as dynamic support after months of persistent downside pressure. Meanwhile, the 200-day moving average near $0.00000500 remains the primary resistance level that bulls have yet to overcome.

Momentum has also normalized following the spike. The Relative Strength Index briefly entered overbought territory during the rally but has since cooled back toward the neutral 50 level. That reset reduces the risk of immediate technical exhaustion while leaving room for another attempt higher if buyers regain control.

The key question now is whether the increase in exchange outflows reflects genuine long-term accumulation or simply temporary repositioning following the recent surge. If outflows continue rising while exchange reserves begin declining, it would strengthen the bullish case by reducing available supply. Combined with support above the 50-day and 100-day moving averages, that could give SHIB another opportunity to challenge the 200-day moving average in the sessions ahead.
