Bitcoin’s (BTC) price decline forces Michael Saylor’s Strategy into an $8.22 billion net loss for the second quarter.
The loss stems mainly from an $8.32 billion unrealized hit on its Bitcoin trove as the flagship cryptocurrency fell during the period, says Strategy.
The company expanded its holdings to 843,775 BTC by late July with an average purchase price near $75,476 per Bitcoin.
Strategy sold roughly $218.4 million worth of the cryptocurrency under a new monetization plan to help fund preferred stock dividends.
It also accumulated a $3.75 billion cash reserve that covers more than two years of dividend and interest payments.
The firm repurchased 288,930 STRC preferred shares worth about $25 million at an average price of $86.53 per share.
Strategy’s revenue climbed 6.9% year over year to $122.4 million despite the market challenges. Meanwhile, the firm posted gross profit of $81.6 million for the second quarter of 2026, marking a 66.6% gross margin, compared to $78.7 million over the same period last year.
Says Michael Saylor,
“In the midst of this phase of muted bitcoin sentiment and market skepticism, we continue to evolve our business model and establish Digital Credit as a new asset class. Our plan is to return STRC to health with stable demand, high liquidity, and low volatility trading near par. We believe this is the best way to create shareholder value over the long term.”
