Apple restored Telegram to the App Store after a brief removal linked to child sexual abuse material. The platform removed the reported content and banned the responsible account. Meanwhile, the Telegram-linked Gram token recovered most losses caused by the sudden enforcement action.
Apple Says Violation Prompted Temporary Removal
Apple said its review identified content that violated App Store rules covering child sexual abuse material. Telegram removed the material after Apple reported the account involved. The company restored the application after confirming that the platform had completed all required enforcement steps.
Telegram said the case involved one user who shared illegal content through the service. Its moderation team immediately banned the account and removed the reported material. The company described the response as part of its wider safety enforcement programme.
The platform reported removing more than 337,900 CSAM-linked groups and channels during 2026. It recorded another 29,640 removals during 2025 after reports from child protection organizations. Epic Games chief Tim Sweeney also criticized Apple’s control over access to major communication platforms.
Gram Token Recovers After Short Decline
The removal briefly affected the Telegram-linked Gram token during early global market trading. CoinGecko data showed Gram falling about 6.4% from $1.41 to $1.32. However, the token later rebounded toward $1.40 after Apple restored the application.
The recovery reflected relief that the ban had not caused a prolonged service disruption. Gram regained most losses before publication, limiting the wider market impact. The quick reversal also reduced concerns about a lasting dispute between both companies.
Still, the episode showed how platform decisions can affect assets connected to large digital ecosystems. App store restrictions can quickly limit access, visibility, and user growth. Those effects can then influence short-term sentiment around related tokens and services.
Telegram Faces Mounting Legal Pressure Abroad
The App Store dispute arrived as Telegram faced separate legal challenges across several countries. Russian authorities recently charged founder Pavel Durov with facilitating terrorist activity. They also placed him on an international wanted list.
Russian officials accused the service of leaving channels used for attacks, recruitment, and cyber fraud. Durov rejected those claims and described the case as politically motivated. He also accused Russian authorities of pressuring the company over privacy protections.
French investigators continue examining organized crime, fraud, money laundering, and child abuse allegations involving the platform. Authorities arrested Durov near Paris in August 2024, while Australia separately filed an extremist-content case. Telegram rejects the Australian claims, which could expose it to penalties reaching A$54.6 million.
