Platinum prices are trying to establish a floor in the $1,740 zone after a strong price reaction to the 2026 peak.

Platinum is currently trading in the $1,736–$1,745 range as the buyers refuse to budge despite losing momentum after their recent surge. Charts indicate platinum consolidation is underway and pressure from sellers is subsiding.

Platinum Price Finds Support After 2026 Rally Correction

Even so, the platinum price charts clearly reveal an uptrend phase that elevated the XPT/USD above the $2,900 mark during early 2026, before experiencing sharp corrections and declines.

Following the rally to that resistance level, the price retreated steadily, registering a series of lower highs throughout the second quarter as a result. Over the last year, platinum has hovered around $1,746 per ounce currently, though they have experienced major drops from highs reached in earlier trading.

Platinum Price Finds Support After 2026 Rally Correction

On shorter timescales, platinum recovered an early drop into the $1,720 territory and is consolidating near the $1,740 handle, with recent buyers preventing new lows, but the buying volume has limited the overall price momentum.

The key technical battle comes at resistance just near the 1,780 handle, with support still lurking just below that $1,720–$1,730 range. If a buyer gets clear through the upper support, more momentum should follow but will sell off if resistance holds firm.

XPT/USD Technical Indicators Show Momentum Recovery

The long-term XPT/USD chart: The price structure supports a higher low after months of sales at platinum trading above the 2025 average, still well above it at present.

Notably, the metal has made great gains over the past year—an up by 30% or more on this timeframe—and the price structure shows the establishment of new support around recent lows of a month ago, now sitting between $1,700 and $1,720.

XPT/USD Technical Indicators Show Momentum Recovery

Based on the XPT/USD chart, platinum seems to have found a bottom according to indicators, with improved short-term momentum during the ongoing decline and MACD gaining ground on previously negative levels, although still quite flat. An RSI of 54 and still within normal parameters above 50 indicates good volume.

A breakout over the near-term $1,780 range would suggest that the metal could continue on towards higher price objectives; breaking below $1,700 would open an interesting new trading scenario for this commodity where I’d speculate new lows would soon be found.

Platinum Price Targets Depend on Breakout Direction

A sustained movement above $1,780 for the platinum market would open up once again the prospect for prices towards previous resistance zones near the $1,850 mark and higher levels.

Meanwhile, on the flip side, if platinum prices fail to move above the current resistance and stay within a consolidative pattern, failure to hold above $1,720 could start to break down the current support.

In this scenario, the $1,700 round number could be a target once again for sellers to step in. In the context of the long-term platinum chart, prices for platinum have found themselves far above their 2025 counterparts, still posting impressive year-to-year gains, although there have been the latest pullbacks for prices.

Platinum Price Targets Depend on Breakout Direction

Trading figures indicate that platinum has jumped by some 31.34% in the last 12 months. The factors underpinning platinum continue to remain centered around the issue of supply and demand concerns, especially with industrial applications being central to price drivers.

For now, platinum prices have maintained their position at a key juncture where both technical factors such as recovery in the RSI and MACD structure indicate strong buying conditions, whereas supply-based data is supporting ongoing recovery in platinum and industrial demand.

The only step missing for platinum on a bullish view is a sustained movement above the resistance level, for this is needed for further upside movement.
