BEP-675 Boosts BSC Testnet Throughput by 88%, Cuts Redundancy

BEP-675, a new performance proposal on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) testnet, has shown significant promise, delivering an 88% increase in transaction throughput. The upgrade, part of BNB Chain’s H2 2026 roadmap, achieved 2,324 transactions per second (TPS), up from a baseline of 1,237 TPS, without altering the 100M gas limit or 450ms block interval.

The improvement stems from eliminating redundant block execution steps. Currently, block builders execute transactions before submitting bids to validators, who then re-execute the same transactions before sealing the block. BEP-675 allows builders to submit fully executed blocks directly, cutting the validator’s execution time from 125ms to 15ms. This extra time enables builders to pack blocks closer to the gas limit, increasing efficiency without affecting finality.

Test Results Showcase BEP-675’s Impact

The test was conducted on QANet, a cross-region testnet replicating mainnet conditions. Under BEP-675, average block gas usage rose to 84.15M per block, up from 46.35M, and median usage jumped from 29.49M to 98.99M. Finality lag and execution performance remained stable despite the higher load. This change directly addresses prior inefficiencies where up to a quarter of blocks were submitted partially filled due to time constraints.

“By removing the duplicate execution bottleneck, BEP-675 unlocks significant scalability potential,” BNB Chain noted in its 2026 roadmap. However, the testnet results will need validation at mainnet scale, particularly under conditions with multiple competing bids per slot.

Part of a Larger Scaling Roadmap

BEP-675 is one component of BNB Chain’s ambitious 2026 scaling strategy, aimed at supporting high-volume applications in DeFi, gaming, and payments. This follows earlier milestones such as the January 2026 Fermi hard fork, which reduced block times to 450ms, and broader efforts to drive BSC throughput toward 10x improvements. The mainnet Pasteur hard fork, scheduled for August 25, 2026, is expected to incorporate BEP-675 alongside other upgrades like Block-Level Access Lists.

Builders adopting BEP-675 will need to run a full node rather than a fast node. Legacy bids remain supported but are at a disadvantage due to reduced packing time.

Market Context and Next Steps

BNB (BNB), the native token of BNB Chain, was trading at $570.50 as of August 7, 2026, up 0.96% over 24 hours with a market cap of $75.94 billion. While BEP-675 doesn’t directly impact token price, enhancing BSC’s scalability strengthens its value proposition for developers and users, potentially driving long-term demand.

Looking ahead, BNB Chain plans to test BEP-675 at mainnet scale and in conjunction with other roadmap initiatives. If successful, this upgrade could position BSC as a top contender for high-throughput blockchain applications, offering faster transaction processing without compromising network security or stability.
