The work week returns and school begins for many kids around the country. My own high schooler heads into his Junior year starting today, which is wild. Wild that he’s my youngest and so close to being done with high school. In any case, time waits for no man. Let’s solve this Wordle!

STARE was a good opening guess, leaving me with just 32 words and SPOIL cut that number down to just 2. I actually didn’t even think of SWIPE and popped in SNIPE, which probably tells you something about my gaming habits (swipe left on those mobile apps and swipe right on first-person shooter PC games). In any case, huzzah for me!

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and loses 1 for losing to me. New August totals:

Erik: 13 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

“Snipe” comes from Old Norse snýpa, referring to the long-billed marsh bird. The verb “to snipe” arose from hunting snipe—difficult birds to shoot—and later came to mean shooting from concealment or, figuratively, making a sharp, hostile remark.
