Whales Are Buying XRP While Retail Sells the Dip
XRP’s latest downturn is exposing a notable shift beneath the surface that retail appears to be selling while large holders continue accumulating.
According to on-chain analytics firm Santiment, wallets holding at least 1 million XRP have increased by 32 over the past three months, even as XRP’s market capitalization has fallen roughly 29%. This divergence is difficult to overlook.
Instead of abandoning XRP during the weakness, some of its largest holders appear to be using the decline to build their positions.
Amid this development, XRP has struggled to reclaim the psychologically important $1 level, moving between roughly $1.008 and $1.05. After weeks of sluggish price action, market participants are watching this tight range for a breakout that could set the tone for the next major move. Per CoinCodex data, XRP is trading at $1.01.
What’s the bigger picture? Well, price isn’t telling the whole story. Santiment data has also pointed to accumulation among the 10 million–100 million XRP cohort, suggesting buying pressure extends beyond a single group of whales. If smaller investors continue selling into weakness while larger holders absorb the supply, XRP ownership could gradually become more concentrated.
XRP Whales Accumulate as Retail Sells Into the Weakness
What does Santiment Intelligence data show? Well, retail is selling, whales are absorbing, and concentration is rising.
This shift matters because fewer tokens may remain in the hands of investors most likely to sell during periods of fear.
Meanwhile, the broader XRP Ledger ecosystem continues developing despite XRP’s price weakness. RLUSD is expanding within Ripple’s institutional-focused ecosystem, while payments, custody and tokenization initiatives are adding more real-world utility to the XRPL.
The bigger story is that XRP is weakening while large holders continue adding exposure and the ecosystem keeps expanding.
The next confirmation could come from continued growth in 1M+ XRP wallets, rising whale balances, declining exchange-held supply and a sustained move above key resistance.
Until then, XRP’s weakness may not be pure capitulation since it might be accumulation taking place before the next major move.
