Metaplanet BTC Holdings remain stable at 43,000 BTC despite the transfer of 5,014 BTC (approximately $322 million) by the Japanese Bitcoin Treasury Firm. However, the CEO of Metaplanet, Simon Gerovich, immediately clarified the rumors suggesting that they had sold some of their reserves.
“We did a routine custody transaction; there was no Bitcoin sold, and our holdings remain 43,000 BTC,” Mr. Gerovich explained.

Metaplanet BTC Holdings Unchanged After Transfer
The company sent 5,014 BTC on Wednesday. The reason behind the media interest in the matter is that the size of the transaction made up a considerable part of the company’s Bitcoin reserves of the company.
Nevertheless, according to Gerovich, the transaction had nothing to do with selling the Bitcoin but was connected with custody issues. Additionally, it should be noted that the fee for the transaction was quite insignificant. Metaplanet paid just $8 to make the transfer.
This implies that the Metaplanet BTC Holdings remain at 43,000 BTC, despite the high on-chain activity. The company has not shown any signs that it intends to lower its holdings of Bitcoin.
Metaplanet Continues Its Bitcoin Treasury Strategy
Metaplanet has positioned itself among the biggest public Bitcoin treasury firms. It is the third-largest public Bitcoin treasury firm across the globe and the largest such firm in Asia.
According to Arkham data, Metaplanet is currently sitting on a paper loss of approximately $1.4 billion from its Bitcoin position. This loss is calculated based on the difference between the worth of the company’s Bitcoin position and the cost of acquisition.
Even with this setback, Metaplanet is forging ahead with its Bitcoin strategy in the long run. Indeed, Metaplanet has made Bitcoin an integral part of its corporate treasury strategy and is pursuing other areas in the cryptocurrency space.
There seems to be no deviation from this strategy in the most recent transaction. Metaplanet’s BTC holdings still stand at 43,000 BTC.
Metaplanet Expands Beyond Bitcoin Accumulation
Metaplanet has even begun expanding its operations beyond purchasing and storing Bitcoin.
In March, the firm launched Metaplanet Ventures by pledging 4 billion yen, or approximately $25 million, to fund investments in Bitcoin and crypto-related infrastructure in Japan for the coming two to three years.
The initiative demonstrates that the firm is keen on establishing itself more in the growing digital asset market of Japan while continuing its focus on Bitcoin.
Ambitious Bitcoin Targets for 2026 and 2027
Aggressive objectives have been outlined by Metaplanet in order to boost its holdings in Bitcoin. The objectives include accumulating a total of 100,000 BTC by 2026 and accumulating 210,000 BTC by 2027.
Achieving those objectives will need some great improvement from where Metaplanet currently stands at 43,000 BTC. For the time being, the Metaplanet BTC Holdings have remained constant after the recent transaction.
Explanation by Gerovich might also assuage fears that this major deal was a change in the firm’s treasury policy. At least for now, the transfer of 5,014 BTC seems to be an act of custody, while Metaplanet is still striving towards accumulating a much bigger amount of Bitcoins.
