JPMorgan Asked Polymarket to Find Another Bank

According to the Financial Times, JPMorgan informed Polymarket in October 2025 that it needed to find a new banking partner. People familiar with the matter reportedly linked the decision to regulatory concerns surrounding the prediction market platform.

Polymarket subsequently moved its banking relationship to another lender, although the bank was not publicly identified.

The split, however, was not a complete corporate break. Polymarket stated that it continues to retain an active partnership with JPMorgan, encompassing a variety of entities, operational integrations and fund flows with customers.

JPMorgan has continued to be interested in the growth of Polymarket. The bank was interested in inviting CEO Shayne Coplin to a private banking conference in Miami back in February, and apparently they have an active interest in possibly helping the company go public someday. There are no indications of any IPO filing or underwriting agreements.

Polymarket Faces a Tougher Regulatory Environment

The banking decision came during a period of major regulatory changes for Polymarket in the United States.

From Crypto Prediction Platform to Regulated US Market

In 2022, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) initiated another action against Polymarket, mandating the company to pay out a $1.4 million civil penalty and close unregistered markets that did not meet the US derivatives regulations.

Polymarket subsequently acquired QCX and QC Clearing to continue offering trading services in the United States. It currently has a US exchange market designated by CFTC known as QCX.

That structure leaves only limited regulatory challenges left behind for Polymarket which now has a more straightforward way of entering the regulated U.S. derivatives market. Prediction markets still have to work out whether event contracts are subject to state-bans or federal derivatives laws.

Some U.S. states also have moved against prediction-market websites, adding another puzzle piece for firms in the business.

Polymarket Targets $1B Funding at $20B+ Valuation

The JPMorgan development coincides with Polymarket’s potential roughly $1 billion fundraising bid, reportedly proposed at more than $20 billion.

The fundraisings would be a further expansion of the platform. Not surprisingly, Polymarket has already seen a lot of institutional interest, such as that of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange.

The company has also positioned itself beyond its crypto-native user base by building infrastructure for regulated US prediction markets.

Reportedly, the move by JPMorgan underscores the rivalry between conventional banking rules and the near-booming prediction-market industry. Meanwhile, the bank’s assertion that it’s considering an IPO role indicates its value in Polymarket’s business even if it isn’t a direct bank.
