President Donald Trump is expected to meet senior crypto executives at the White House on August 19, according to people briefed on the plans. The gathering comes as regulators prepare a separate public policy meeting and the Senate waits to take its next procedural step on the CLARITY Act.
CoinDesk reported that Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, and Chainlink Labs CEO Sergey Nazarov are among the executives expected in Washington. Representatives from a16z, Paradigm, and Kalshi are also expected to attend.
SEC Chair Paul Atkins and CFTC Chair Michael Selig are expected to join the discussion. However, the White House has not published a final attendee list or agenda, so the plans could change.
White House Meeting Precedes CFTC Policy Session
The meeting is expected to take place at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. It would bring crypto executives and federal regulators together one day before the first public meeting of the CFTC’s Innovation Advisory Committee.
Armstrong, Garlinghouse, and Nazarov are members of that committee. The CFTC’s official membership list also includes executives from prediction markets, exchanges, financial firms, and technology companies.
The committee will meet on August 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. EDT. According to the Federal Register notice, members will discuss crypto assets, artificial intelligence, prediction markets, and recent CFTC activity in those sectors. The public can attend online.
The timing gives executives two consecutive days to raise policy concerns in Washington. The White House session remains a private meeting with an unconfirmed agenda, while the CFTC event has a published scope and public access.
CLARITY Act Faces September Procedural Vote
The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act remains pending after the Senate entered its August recess without voting on the bill.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune filed cloture on the motion to proceed before the recess. A procedural vote is scheduled for September 15, when senators return. That vote would determine whether the Senate moves toward debating the bill; it would not pass the legislation.
The CLARITY Act would divide federal oversight of digital assets between the SEC and CFTC and set requirements for market participants. Coinbase and Ripple support clearer market-structure rules, which makes their expected role in the White House discussion significant.
The meeting also follows the SEC’s cancellation of an August 14 session on proposed crypto rules. Selig has separately called the CLARITY Act a must-pass bill.
No immediate policy decision is guaranteed. Progress on the CLARITY Act still depends on the Senate securing enough votes to open debate, resolving amendments, and completing later votes required for passage.
