State Farm started distributing its $5 billion cash-back dividend to millions of qualifying auto insurance customers, with some policyholders receiving notifications by email or mail.
The State Farm dividend is the largest in the insurer’s more than 100-year history and will be distributed across more than 49 million qualifying State Farm Mutual auto vehicles. State Farm previously said payments are expected to average about $100 per vehicle, although the actual amount customers receive will vary.
The company says the one-time payout was made possible by its financial strength and stronger-than-expected auto underwriting performance in 2025. Unlike a publicly traded insurer, State Farm Mutual is owned by its policyholders rather than shareholders. This allows it to return value directly to eligible customers.
Who Qualifies for the State Farm Dividend?
Customers may qualify if they had a State Farm Mutual personal auto insurance policy active at any point during 2025 and their calculated dividend is at least $10. Importantly, customers do not have to still be insured by State Farm to receive the payment.

Each payment is calculated as a percentage of the premium paid for a qualifying policy during 2025. Depending on the state, that percentage ranges from 4% to 10%. State Farm says the percentage differs because each state’s contribution to the company’s nationwide 2025 underwriting results varies.
That means someone who paid $1,500 in qualifying premiums could theoretically receive between $60 and $150, depending on the percentage assigned to their state.
When Will State Farm Dividend Payments Arrive?
State Farm is sending payments in waves based on the state where each policy is assigned, and the nationwide distribution is expected to take several months.
Customers with an email address on file will receive instructions from State Farm’s payment distribution provider, Veritas, allowing them to select a digital payment or mailed check. Those without an email address on file will automatically receive a check by mail.
The dividend is a separate cash payment rather than a credit against future premiums. State Farm also says receiving the dividend will not cause auto insurance rates to increase, as future rates are calculated based on expected future costs rather than the company’s 2025 financial results.
Customers waiting for their payment can check their State Farm account and watch for official email or mailed communications regarding their eligibility.
