Fidelity-linked Bitcoin activity hits $134M as ETF outflows continue

Bitcoin [BTC] looks unusually quiet… on the surface. Look further, and you’ll notice that the institutional troubles are simply well hidden.

Here’s why.

Bitcoin volatility falls deep, big players rise to the occasion

Per data from Fidelity, Bitcoin’s volatility is now lower than roughly 98.5% of all days in its history. Spot trading volume has also dropped to its lowest level since 2019.

Does it mean traders have lost interest? Perhaps, but not entirely.

Buyers and sellers are perhaps just waiting for a good reason to make a move. The longer Bitcoin stays range-bound, the more curiosity there will be about what could possibly break the balance.

Interestingly, data from Arkham showed that Fidelity’s clients bought around $134 million worth of Bitcoin in just two days! This is their strongest two-day buying period since early July. It is very possible that big players are using the quieter days to increase their exposure.

Things look nicer if you zoom out as well. Bitcoin fell 14.2% during Q2 2026, but institutional Bitcoin ETF holdings apparently rose by 7.5%!

The other side of the coin

The numbers are encouraging, but the year-to-date picture is bleak.

In a recent X post, crypto analyst Darkfost noted that US spot Bitcoin ETFs are still at approx. 102,000 BTC in net cumulative outflows for 2026.

Which means, the recent buying is important, but not enough to call it a comeback. There’s a contrast with 2024 and 2025, when cumulative ETF flows were positive for much of the year.

This leaves Bitcoin in quite a fix.

Volatility and trading volume is unusually low, and selective institutional buyers are stepping in. However, the wider ETF market is still dealing with heavy outflows.

There’s plenty of activity, just that not all of it is bullish.

Final Summary

  • Fidelity reported that Bitcoin volatility is lower than 98.5% of its history!
  • Their clients bought $134M in Bitcoin, but ETFs are down roughly 102K BTC in 2026.
