Motor City, a revenge thriller starring Reacher star Alan Ritchson, will attempt to find an audience on streaming this week after the film with only a handful of lines of dialogue had a muted run at the box office.

Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, Motor City opened in theaters on July 24. Ritchson plays John Miller, a blue-collar factory worker in 1970s Detroit who is framed for having a trunk load of drugs after he falls for Sophie (Shailene Woodley), the ex-girlfriend of Reynolds (Ben Foster), a powerful crime kingpin.

After serving years in prison, Miller escapes and seeks revenge on Reynolds and the other people who framed him.

Upon Motor City’s acquisition for distribution from RLJE Films in October 2025, Ponciroli noted of his film, via Deadline, “We shot Motor City to be immersive, every frame, every sound, designed for a theater. It’s a love letter to Detroit, to 70s cinema, and to the kind of filmmaking you can feel. It’s the kind of movie that makes you happy that theaters still exist.”

Despite moderate praise from Rotten Tomatoes critics— including kudos for the film’s bold choice to go virtually dialogue free — Motor City failed to ignite at the box office, where it earned $1.6 million from 1,600 North American theaters in its opening weekend, July 24-26. Motor City to date has earned $2.7 million domestically and nearly $243,000 internationally for a worldwide box office tally of 2.743 million worldwide.

Rated R, Motor City had a production budget of $30 million before marketing costs, according to Deadline.
