
Using cryptocurrency to fund a sportsbook does not necessarily make the betting itself on-chain. At many crypto sportsbooks, Bitcoin or USDT enters through a blockchain transaction, but the wager then exists in the operator’s private database. The next blockchain transaction appears when the player withdraws.
In the case of on-chain sportsbooks, a wager, position, result, settlement, or payout is recorded through smart contracts, creating a public record that can be inspected independently of the sportsbook’s account history.
The category remains relatively small. Dexsport, SX Bet and Overtime are among the established examples, while newer platforms such as Steam22 are building around the same model.
Here are six sports betting platforms where settlement has an on-chain component.

1. Dexsport
Dexsport combines a conventional sportsbook interface with blockchain-based betting infrastructure. Its public betting desk records wagers and outcomes on-chain, giving bettors an external record of how a position was resolved.
That makes it different from crypto sportsbooks where blockchain activity is confined to deposits and withdrawals. With Dexsport, settlement itself forms part of the blockchain record. Recent descriptions of its architecture characterize it as a hybrid system: sports pricing and real-world event data still originate off-chain, while bets and settlement are exposed through its public on-chain infrastructure.
The distinction is important when assessing what blockchain transparency actually proves. Dexsport’s terms state that sports events are settled using actual competition data based on official protocols and other reliable information sources. Blockchain records can therefore show how the resulting wager was processed, but the blockchain does not independently determine who won a football match or tennis match.
Dexsport’s supplied platform information also lists smart-contract audits by CertiK and Pessimistic. Registration can be completed through email, Telegram or a compatible Web3 wallet, while the sportsbook covers more than 100 betting options on some matches.
Best suited to: bettors who want the familiar structure of a sportsbook while gaining a publicly verifiable betting record.
2. SX Bet
SX Bet approaches sports betting more like a financial exchange.
There is no traditional bookmaker taking the opposite side of every wager. Makers submit orders containing an outcome, stake and desired odds. Other bettors can then take those orders. Once matched, the funds are placed in an escrow smart contract.
When the sporting event finishes, a reporter submits its result on-chain. The escrow contract then distributes the funds to the winning side automatically.
The structure creates a relatively clear settlement trail:
maker posts order → taker fills order → funds enter escrow → result is reported → escrow pays the winner.
SX Bet primarily uses USDC for wagering. Straight bets currently carry 0% trading fees according to its documentation, while parlays carry a 5% fee.
SX Bet therefore belongs closer to Betfair than to a conventional fixed-odds bookmaker. The difference is that the escrow and final settlement operate through blockchain contracts rather than an internal sportsbook ledger.
Best suited to: experienced bettors who understand betting exchanges and want to set or take market prices.
3. Overtime
Overtime is one of the clearest examples of a fully on-chain sportsbook architecture.
Rather than using a conventional bookmaker or P2P order book, Overtime operates a Sports Automated Market Maker. Its contracts provide liquidity to bettors and support singles, parlays, same-game parlays, live markets, futures and player props.
Markets and their eventual resolution are handled through smart contracts. Overtime uses external sports data supplied through oracle infrastructure, including Chainlink, to establish results. Once the required result reaches the blockchain, the relevant contracts can resolve the market.
Its current V2 architecture uses Merkle trees to make publishing markets and odds on-chain more efficient. According to Overtime’s documentation, market creation, transactions and settlement remain visible through smart contracts despite this scalability layer.
This produces a different counterparty structure from both Dexsport and SX Bet. Bettors effectively trade against protocol liquidity rather than a centralized bookmaker or an individual bettor.
Best suited to: DeFi users who want a sportsbook built around smart contracts and automated liquidity.
4. BetDEX
BetDEX applies decentralized exchange infrastructure to sports betting on Solana.
Like SX Bet, it is based on a betting exchange rather than a conventional bookmaker model. Bettors can take positions against other market participants, while smart contracts handle funds and settlement.
The underlying architecture uses Monaco Protocol. Funds associated with matched positions are escrowed rather than being held as an ordinary sportsbook account balance. When an event is resolved, the smart contracts settle the corresponding positions on-chain.
This distinction separates BetDEX from sportsbooks that merely offer Solana as a payment option. In the latter case, SOL or USDC might move on-chain when entering and leaving the platform while the bet itself remains an internal database entry.
BetDEX was designed around sports from the start, which also separates it from broader prediction markets where sport represents one category among politics, economics and other events.
Best suited to: bettors looking for a Solana-based sports exchange and peer-to-peer market structure.
5. Jackson Sportsbook
Jackson Sportsbook entered this category in September 2025 with a decentralized sportsbook built around smart-contract execution.
According to Jackson’s launch announcement, wagers and settlements are executed on-chain through smart contracts and can therefore be audited against the blockchain. The sportsbook covers conventional sports alongside esports markets.
Jackson also operates under an Anjouan gaming licence. This combination is worth noting because decentralized betting protocols and licensed sportsbooks have historically occupied relatively separate parts of the market.
Its on-chain design provides a permanent transaction record for settlement. As with the other sportsbooks here, real-world match results still have to reach the blockchain from an external source before a contract can determine which position should receive the payout.
Jackson has a considerably shorter sportsbook operating history than established crypto betting brands, so bettors should evaluate current liquidity, market coverage and withdrawal conditions separately from its settlement technology.
Best suited to: bettors looking for a newer licensed sportsbook with smart-contract settlement.
6. Steam22
Steam22 is the most experimental entry on this list.
The project describes itself as a fully on-chain sportsbook built on Ethereum. Its architecture places bets and payouts through smart contracts, while users retain control of their funds rather than depositing them into a conventional sportsbook balance.
That makes its basic proposition straightforward: no separate deposit and withdrawal process, smart-contract execution and blockchain-visible settlement.
There is an important limitation. Steam22 currently advertises access through a private beta, so it should not be evaluated as a mature alternative to an established sportsbook.
Its inclusion shows where the category is moving. Developers are increasingly treating settlement as part of the blockchain application itself rather than adding cryptocurrency payments to an otherwise conventional sportsbook.
Best suited to: users following emerging Ethereum-based sportsbook infrastructure rather than those looking for a mature betting platform today.
What Does On-Chain Settlement Prove?
A blockchain can provide a durable record that a particular transaction occurred. Depending on the sportsbook architecture, bettors may be able to verify their stake, contract interaction, position, settlement and payout without relying entirely on the sportsbook’s own account history.
It does not prove that every part of the betting process is decentralized.
Sports results originate outside blockchains. A smart contract cannot independently watch a Premier League match and determine that Liverpool won 2-1. An oracle, validator or another data provider must supply that information.
Odds can also originate off-chain. Dexsport, for example, combines blockchain-visible settlement with sportsbook infrastructure that uses external event information. Overtime pushes pricing and sports data on-chain through its oracle and Merkle-tree architecture. SX Bet allows users themselves to create orders and determine the prices at which they are prepared to trade.
On-chain settlement therefore answers a narrower question: can the bettor independently inspect how a wager or position was resolved and paid?
On-Chain Settlement vs Provably Fair Betting
These terms are sometimes used interchangeably, but they describe different systems.
Provably fair technology normally concerns games whose outcomes are generated cryptographically, such as dice, crash or casino originals. A player can use cryptographic information to check that the operator did not alter a generated outcome after the bet was placed.
Sportsbooks face a different problem because the result happens in the physical world.
An on-chain sportsbook generally receives that result from an external data source and then uses it to resolve a smart contract or blockchain position. The resulting settlement can be transparent even though the sporting result itself was not generated by the blockchain.
This is also why large crypto sportsbooks should not automatically appear on a list of on-chain sportsbooks. Stake, Cloudbet and Thunderpick, for example, support cryptocurrency and may provide provably fair casino products, but available comparisons classify their sportsbook settlement as off-chain.
How the Six Sportsbooks Differ
The largest difference is the counterparty.
Dexsport provides the closest experience here to a conventional crypto sportsbook, with familiar fixed-odds markets, extensive match coverage and a public blockchain record.
SX Bet and BetDEX operate as exchanges. Bettors trade against other bettors rather than accepting prices solely from a bookmaker.
Overtime replaces both structures with an automated market maker. Protocol liquidity acts as the counterparty and smart contracts govern the position.
Jackson uses smart contracts within a licensed decentralized sportsbook model, while Steam22 represents a newer Ethereum-native approach that is still in private beta.
All six use blockchain settlement, but they reach it through materially different architectures.
