A Trump-linked merchandise brand is denying all ties to a Solana token that burned investors after a rapid rise and fall.
Real Trump Coins says it never authorized the GOLD token, even as its own verified X account and official website promoted the asset before its collapse.
The GOLD token briefly hit a ~$66 million market cap on Aug. 29, then lost roughly 99% of its value in a matter of minutes. On-chain data flagged the problem before most investors could react.
How the GOLD Token Launch Unfolded, and Who Promoted It
Real Trump Coins is a licensed physical gold-and-silver merchandise brand. President Trump promoted the brand in 2024.
Its X account, @realtrumpcoins1, one of just 53 accounts Trump follows, posted the Solana contract address for GOLD token on the morning of Aug. 29.
The post directed buyers to RealTrumpCoins.com, where GOLD was also advertised as “the Trump Foundation’s most ambitious crypto project to date.”
Blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain raised the alarm immediately. Lookonchain flagged the 82.45% supply concentration, noting that the developer and 15 newly created wallets controlled the near-total supply before the public even noticed.
realtrumpcoins(@realtrumpcoins1), which is followed by @realDonaldTrump, has launched a token called $GOLD.
Notably, the developer holds 600M $GOLD, and 15 newly created wallets spent $18,657 to buy 224.5M $GOLD.
The team currently controls 82.45% of the total supply.

That level of insider control is a classic exit setup. Within roughly two hours of the token’s creation.
Those team-linked wallets sold 824.54 million GOLD for approximately 9,784 SOL, worth around $1.01 million at the time, per on-chain tracker EmberCN.
EmberCN’s data shows the market cap fell from ~$55M to ~$1M in about 30 seconds. The GOLD promo posts were deleted from the X account shortly after.
The account bio now links to a separate storefront, TrumpCoins.com, selling only physical coins.

Notably, this is not an isolated pattern. Trump family members had already warned against unauthorized crypto launches.
As World Liberty Financial previously sent a cease-and-desist over an unauthorized Trump wallet, the family has shown it actively polices brand-impersonation in crypto.
Eric Trump went further on Aug. 22, posting on X: “No one is launching any kind of coin. If anyone is suggesting otherwise, it’s a fraud.” That warning came just seven days before the GOLD token was minted on Solana.
Real Trump Coins Denial Raises More Questions Than It Answers
Real Trump Coins issued a statement Saturday, saying it “has not authorized and will not launch, promote, or authorize any digital token.”
The brand blamed “third-party bad actors” and said it was working with authorities. However, no named law-enforcement agency has publicly confirmed an investigation.
The denial itself left investors with unanswered questions. The X account, the website, and the contract address all pointed to the same launch.
Whether the account was hacked, the site was compromised, or a third party had access to both remains unconfirmed.
At the time of publication, RealTrumpCoins.com still displayed GOLD promotion despite the denial, per multiple reports.
For context, the official Trump meme coin ($TRUMP) is a separate Solana asset launched by Trump himself in January 2025, and is entirely distinct from GOLD.
Similarly, World Liberty Financial’s USD1 stablecoin operates under the official Trump-family crypto stack.
GOLD was neither. Investors who bought GOLD based on the brand’s social proof, Trump following the merch account, found themselves holding a near-worthless token within the hour.
The broader risk is well-documented. Public Citizen recently estimated that Trump-linked crypto ventures have cost investors around $4.7 billion.
For anyone navigating Solana meme coins, the GOLD collapse is a sharp reminder: verify the issuer, check top-holder concentration on-chain, and treat deleted social posts as a walk-away signal, not a buying opportunity.
