The recent altcoin rally has seen a handful of alternative tokens clear longstanding losses and kick off a steady recovery as they retest previous resistance levels. While market players focus on altcoins in the top 5 category, a silent winner stands right behind DOGE and has emerged as the best-performing altcoin within the top 20 category.
ZCash’s ZEC, the 11th most valuable cryptocurrency by market cap, has unseated other leading altcoins to post a whopping 82% gain over the last 30 days.
With 24-hour gains surpassing 5%, ZEC has widened the gap with other altcoins, while its closest market cap competitor, DOGE, struggles to stay afloat.
The altcoin has posted a 58.83% year-to-date gain, the second-highest recorded by an altcoin in the top 25 category in 2026.
ZEC’s winning streak stretched beyond the price charts into social spaces, as social dominance averaged 183% above its pre-rally level in the ten days after August 19th, according to Santiment data.
Although ZEC remains primed for a continued upward run, ZEC’s social chatter peaked a day before its price value took a hit and was completely erased by the time its ETF launched.
Notably, Grayscale converted its 2017 Zcash trust into a spot ETF, trading on NYSE Arca from August 25, and as Santiment observed, ZEC ran from an estimated $509 on August 18 to about $852 on August 23, up roughly 65% into the launch.
Social mentions went up to 232 on Aug 22, a notable 6x surge, then returned to baseline by launch day. On August 22nd, the attention peaked a day before a price top was recorded and completely vanished before the fund began trading live.
After its peak, ZEC took a hit, recording a 6% decline, to trade at $796. However, at report time, ZEC has gained 5% over the last 24 hours and is trading at $844.
