Wendi Adelson and Dan Markel had the veneer of a perfect family—until they didn’t. After a contentious divorce and in the middle of an even more bitter custody battle, the 41-year-old law professor was gunned down in the garage of his Tallahassee home in broad daylight on July 18, 2014. As the years crept on, law enforcement began to uncover a twisted contract killing scheme involving hitmen, in-laws, ex-partners, and the family dental practice that eventually led to the arrest and convictions of Charlie and Donna Adelson–the brother and mother of Dan’s former wife, Wendi. Law enforcement said the mother-son duo orchestrated Dan’s murder so Wendi would be free to relocate herself and the children to South Florida to be closer to the family. Lily Fletcher, a producer behind “Welcome to the Family: The Murder of Dan Markel,” joins “Forbes True Crime” to discuss the new docuseries that takes a look at the case.
