U.S. Mint Puts Trump $1 Coin On Sale

The Mint began selling Trump $1 coins to collectors at noon EDT on Wednesday in 25-coin rolls for $61 and 100-coin bags for $154.50, working out to $2.44 per coin in the 25-coin roll and about $1.55 per coin in the 100-coin bag.

The coins have $1 face value and are legal tender, but the Mint is selling the rolls and bags as collector products.

One side of the coin depicts Trump’s portrait alongside “Liberty,” “In God We Trust” and “1776-2026,” while the other shows the presidential seal and “250.”

Despite their gold appearance, the coins have no actual gold and are primarily copper, with 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel.

KEY BACKGROUND

The Trump $1 coin is part of the 2026 Semiquincentennial Coin Program, which commemorates the nation’s 250th anniversary. Congress authorized the program through the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, which permits the U.S. Mint to redesign circulating coins for the anniversary. Trump signed the law during his first term, and his administration has used it to argue the Trump coin is legal despite federal law preventing a living person’s face from appearing on U.S. currency. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled the coin’s design in July, saying at the time the coin would “honor the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism.”
