Robinhood Chain resumed block production on Friday after a halt lasting more than 10 minutes prevented the network from confirming new transactions. The interruption affected token transfers and smart contract calls during a period of rising activity across its tokenized-stock and DeFi markets.

The network began producing blocks again after an estimated 10 to 14 minutes. Early activity remained intermittent, according to explorer data, while transactions submitted during the pause waited for confirmation.

Why Did Robinhood Chain Stop Producing New Blocks?

Robinhood Chain had not disclosed the cause of the interruption. The company also had not issued an update confirming when network services returned to normal.

No reports indicated that funds were stolen or account balances were changed. Available records showed a processing halt rather than a confirmed security breach.

The latest block number stayed the same during the entire process. Although transactions, contract calls, and routing operations were recorded in the explorer, they were not added to new blocks in the network.

A few of these requests stayed associated with the same block height. This behavior indicated that the network was no longer moving forward, despite being able to receive transactions.

Robinhood Chain is a Layer 2 that can be used with Ethereum and built using the Arbitrum technology. Transactions are processed off-chain from the Ethereum network and then added back to Ethereum in the form of settlements.

However, Robinhood Chain launched its public mainnet on July 1. It was created for tokenized shares, DeFi, real-world assets, lending platforms, and trading applications.

When Did Processing Return?

First, news aggregators noted the disruption on social media when the explorer stopped giving updates. The second notice indicated that block creation had resumed, though it was not consistent.

Finally, later updates from the explorer showed that the blockchain had started performing transactions again. Nonetheless, these updates did not give any technical cause for the disruption.

At no point had Robinhood Chain indicated whether the disruption was caused by the sequencer, the blockchain nodes, or other software. Without an official statement, there is no way to determine the cause.

Why Does Tokenized-Stock Growth Matter?

The halt came amid robust investor growth of equity products on blockchain. More than 928,400 new tokenized stock wallets were registered in August, increasing the total from 771,000 to nearly 1.7 million.

The monthly growth was reported to be 120.3%. It should be noted that the number of wallets refers not to verified investors but to wallet addresses; thus, one individual can hold multiple addresses.

BNB Chain topped the list with about 730,000 tokenized-stock wallets. Robinhood Chain took second place with 518,800, whereas Solana had about 335,000.

About 73% of all monitored wallets belonged to BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain, respectively. The statistics demonstrate that tokenized-stock wallets were concentrated on only two blockchains by the end of August.

The Robinhood network registered about $989 million in decentralized exchange trading volume on Aug. 28. The total value locked amounted to $708 million, which referred to the capital locked in its DeFi ecosystem.

Robinhood provides stock tokens on the platform called Robinhood Wallet in more than 120 countries, depending on the eligible status and regulations of the respective region. There are several supported decentralized exchanges for trading such products.

How Is Robinhood Expanding the Network?

Infrastructure platforms have expanded their offerings since the launch in July. Chainstack started offering mainnet and testnet nodes, whereas Alchemy, BitGo, Chainlink, and Uniswap joined the infrastructure family.

The problem surfaced amid controversy surrounding tokenized stocks by Robinhood. AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron expressed his discontent regarding the platform’s AMC stock token and raised concerns related to products tracking stocks without offering actual ownership.

Robinhood’s Classic Stock Tokens allow users to enjoy price exposure to securities. The tokens do not offer ownership of stocks as well as shareholder rights.

Robinhood Markets shares opened lower on Friday after having gained 16.6% on Thursday. HOOD ended Thursday at $124.72 amid analysts’ positive comments regarding the stockbroker’s growth potential.

The share price fell lower on Friday and traded within the $120-$123 range. There was no publicly available information suggesting a connection between the price fall and network issues.
