Key highlights:

  • Circle is purchasing Tazapay to strengthen its position in the global payments system
  • The stablecoin company will buy the platform with $400 million in CRCL stock
  • The company sees the acquisition as a way to expand the adoption of USDC

USDC issuer Circle is now exploring opportunities beyond stablecoins as it looks to strengthen its position in the global payments sector. As part of this vision, the company is planning to buy Tazapay, a Singapore-based cross-border payments firm, for $400 million in CRCL stock.

Circle to acquire Tazapay to strengthen its global payment network

Circle has agreed to acquire Tazapay for about $400 million in stock. This means that the stablecoin issuer will use its own shares to fund the acquisition instead of making the payments in cash. Thus, Circle can make use of the current market value of the CRCL stock to further expand its global payments services.

Notably, the USDC issuer announced this deal via a press release on September 8, 2026. This marks the company’s first major acquisition following its initial public offering in June 2025. As per the announcement, the $400 million acquisition deal is expected to support Circle’s vision of building the infrastructure for global digital finance. Irfan Ganchi, Senior Vice President of Payments at Circle, noted,

“Tazapay brings deep payment infrastructure across APAC and emerging markets, where we see increasing demand for USDC-denominated transactions. This acquisition will increase Circle’s capability to originate and terminate payments globally, near-instant and 24/7…Combined with Circle’s existing network, Tazapay extends our coverage to move money anywhere stablecoin payments are being adopted globally.”

How will Tazapay help Circle?

Notably, Tazapay could help the stablecoin company to expand its payment network. With the help of the payments company, Circle can build its position in the cross-border payments system without establishing new banking and payment platforms. As Circle purchases Tazapay, the stablecoin company gets easy access to more than 60 banking and fintech partners. The deal will also bring about $25 billion in annualized payment volume to Circle.

What is more important to note is Tazapay’s ability to connect Circle’s USDC with local payment systems. As per reports, nearly 60% of Tazapay’s transaction volume already includes stablecoins. This gives Circle an additional benefit of using an existing network where USDC can be used for international payments. According to Tazapay founder Rahul Shinghal, the decision to merge capabilities of both companies is the “right move.”

Tazapay purchase to boost USDC adoption

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire believes that the Tazapay deal could be a crucial step in expanding the use of USDC around the world. For him, stablecoins are becoming an important part of the global financial system. Thus, Tazapay could help the company connect with major players, expanding USDC’s access. He added,

“Stablecoin settlement is becoming core infrastructure in the global economy, and combining USDC with Tazapay’s world-class banking relationships, local payout rails, and institutional customer base will accelerate worldwide USDC adoption…Combining USDC with Tazapay’s world-class banking relationships, local payout rails, and institutional customer base will accelerate worldwide USDC adoption.”

It is also worth noting that the connection between Circle and Tazapay isn’t new. Both companies have been working closely since 2025, when the payments platform became the USDC issuer’s design partner. The latest acquisition will bring this relationship even stronger.
