TLDR

  • XRP is trading around $1.30, a key technical support level after rallying to $1.60 in August
  • The Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points, creating headwinds for crypto assets
  • The U.S. Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act, leaving crypto regulation in limbo
  • XRP’s RSI has cooled to around 47, down from above 80 during the August breakout
  • A close below $1.28 could push XRP toward the $1.20 area

XRP is holding around $1.30 after a turbulent week driven by two major headwinds: a Federal Reserve rate hike and a failed U.S. Senate vote on landmark crypto legislation.

The token briefly climbed toward $1.50 earlier in September but has since pulled back to the $1.30 area, which now sits near a long-running descending trend line that stretches back to February.

That trend line previously acted as resistance before XRP broke above it during August’s sharp rally. Holding above it now would suggest the breakout remains valid.

XRP’s daily RSI has dropped to around 47, down from above 80 during the August surge. That puts momentum in neutral territory rather than overbought.

The August rally took XRP from roughly $1.00 to above $1.60 before momentum faded. Since then, the token has consolidated between approximately $1.30 and $1.45.

Fed Hikes Rates for First Time Since 2023

The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75%–4.00%, its first increase since 2023. Policymakers signalled another hike could follow before year-end.

Higher rates make lower-risk assets more attractive and can reduce appetite for cryptocurrencies. U.S. stocks also closed lower after the announcement.

Inflation remains the Fed’s main concern. Policymakers raised their inflation projections, while strong retail sales and elevated energy prices suggest price pressures could persist.

Analyst Gina, known on X as @Gina_XRP, pointed out that XRP is forming what she sees as the same tight consolidation pattern that preceded the 2024 rally. “Price is literally giving you the same setup that made people millionaires 2 years ago,” she wrote, describing it as the same breakout structure following an aggressive expansion phase.

CLARITY Act Falls Short in Senate Vote

The U.S. Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act this week. The bill received 50 votes in favour but needed 60 to move forward.

The legislation was designed to clarify the roles of the SEC and CFTC in regulating digital assets. Its failure sent shares of Coinbase, Circle, and Galaxy Digital lower.

For XRP specifically, regulatory clarity carries extra weight. Ripple spent years in litigation with the SEC before that case concluded in 2025.

The CLARITY Act is not dead. A procedural vote means lawmakers could revisit it, though enough support is not guaranteed.

If XRP holds $1.30, the next upside levels are $1.40 and the $1.50–$1.60 resistance zone. A daily close below $1.28 could shift focus toward $1.20, with August lows near $1.00 as deeper support.
