Under the deal, Bolt plans to deploy at least 25,000 fully autonomous Lucid vehicles across major European cities. The vehicles will be based on Lucid’s upcoming Midsize platform and are expected to run on Nvidia’s Hyperion autonomous-vehicle architecture, which combines high-performance computing with a standardized sensor suite.

The partnership targets SAE Level 4 autonomy. That means the vehicles can operate without human input within defined conditions and geographic areas.

Bolt will be involved from the product development phase through to commercial operations. It will help define vehicle specs, software, safety standards, and rider-experience requirements. Bolt also plans to build the fleet infrastructure and city partnerships needed for a broader rollout, and intends to own and operate the fleet itself.

Lucid’s newly formed Lucid Technologies division will lead the automaker’s side of the program. It brings together Lucid’s AI, advanced driver-assistance, autonomy, and digital functions under one unit.

Europe’s Robotaxi Race Heats Up

The announcement comes as competition in Europe’s autonomous vehicle space picks up pace. Uber, Verne, and Pony.ai launched robotaxi rides in Zagreb in August. Alphabet-owned Waymo is currently testing autonomous vehicles in Munich ahead of a planned Germany launch in late 2027.

Bolt’s broader goal is to have 100,000 autonomous vehicles on its platform by 2035. The 25,000 Lucid vehicles are the first major step toward that target.

The companies said they will work with autonomous-driving technology partners, European regulators, and policymakers to support the rollout.

Lucid Already Has a US Robotaxi Deal

This is not Lucid’s first autonomous vehicle partnership. The company already has a US robotaxi deal with Uber and autonomous-driving firm Nuro. Under that agreement, Uber committed to deploy at least 35,000 Lucid vehicles, including the Gravity SUV and models from its Midsize platform, starting this year.

The Bolt deal mirrors that structure but focuses specifically on the European market, where regulatory and operational requirements differ from the US.

Both companies said the European program will involve coordination with local regulators and policymakers, acknowledging the added complexity of operating across multiple countries with different rules.

Lucid Technologies will bring the company’s autonomy and AI work together to support both the US and European robotaxi programs going forward.
