On Thursday, September 10, 2026, CoinMarketCap reported that TransparentBusiness Inc., the company behind Unicoin, filed a federal lawsuit against Uniswap Labs. The lawsuit, lodged in the Southern District of New York, seeks a court ruling that Unicoin’s mark does not conflict with trademarks held by the decentralized exchange operator.

The complaint specifically names three marks claimed by Uniswap: UNI, UNISWAP, and UNICHAIN. Unicoin is asking the court to declare that its UNICOIN mark neither infringes upon nor dilutes these existing trademarks. Furthermore, Unicoin is requesting the cancellation of Uniswap’s current US trademark registration for UNI.

This legal action follows a series of demand letters sent by Uniswap’s counsel to Unicoin over a period of approximately two and a half months. These letters, dated June 3, July 17, and August 14, accused Unicoin of trademark infringement, dilution, cybersquatting, and unfair competition.

Uniswap demanded that Unicoin cease using the UNICOIN mark and any other mark beginning with “UNI.” The demands also extended to Unicoin handing over its Unicoin(dot)com and Unicoin(dot)org domains, providing a full accounting of revenue and profits, and covering Uniswap’s legal expenses. Unicoin’s response to these demands was to initiate legal proceedings rather than comply.

The lawsuit also includes a request for a declaration that the two specified domains do not violate the federal Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, which prohibits the bad-faith registration of domain names that closely resemble existing trademarks.

The filing of this lawsuit comes just weeks before Unicoin’s planned public launch of its UNCN token on September 28. This timing places the trademark dispute on an active court docket as the company prepares to release its token.

The Uniswap protocol was recently reported to be the leading decentralized exchange by 24-hour trading volume, exceeding $3.9 billion.
