X Expands Cashtags With Direct Links to Crypto and Stock Trading

X (formerly Twitter) has expanded its Cashtag Partner Program in the United States, allowing users to move directly from stock and crypto discussions on the platform to participating exchanges and brokerages.

The initial partners include Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken for crypto, alongside Interactive Brokers and Moomoo for traditional markets.

When users open a supported Cashtag, they can view price data, charts, and related posts before selecting a Trade option that redirects them to a participating platform.

X itself does not execute trades or hold customer assets, as orders are completed through the connected exchange or brokerage, which remains responsible for account requirements, custody, and trade execution.

X Connects Market Discussions With Trading Platforms

Cashtags have long been used on X to organize conversations around assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any stock by placing a dollar sign before the ticker.

The expanded Smart Cashtags feature turns those tickers into interactive market pages with price charts, market information, and related posts.

US users can now select a Trade option from supported Cashtag pages and continue to a participating financial platform.

The feature covers cryptocurrencies, stocks, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), depending on which assets each partner supports, shortening the path between discovering an asset on social media and reaching a platform where a trade can be placed.

Coinbase, Kraken and Gemini Handle Crypto Trades

Three major US-based crypto platforms are part of the initial rollout:

Users viewing a supported crypto Cashtag can access market information on X and then follow the Trade option to an available exchange.

The exchange, not X, handles the transaction.

Users still need to meet each exchange’s normal requirements, which can include opening an account, completing identity verification, funding the account, and satisfying regional eligibility rules.

Available cryptocurrencies can also differ between Coinbase, Kraken, and Gemini.

Interactive Brokers and Moomoo Cover Traditional Markets

X is using a similar model for stocks and other traditional investments.

Interactive Brokers and Moomoo are the initial brokerage partners in the Cashtag program. Users can move from market discussions on X to the broker’s own platform, where they can continue researching the asset or place a trade.

The arrangement keeps the regulated trading infrastructure outside X.

Users may begin their research through a Cashtag, but the brokerage handles the order itself.

X Does Not Execute Trades Inside the App

Descriptions of the rollout as trading directly from the timeline need some clarification.

The trading journey can begin inside X, but X is not currently acting as the exchange or brokerage executing the order.

The process works like this:

  1. Open a supported Cashtag.
  2. View the asset’s price chart and related posts.
  3. Select the Trade option.
  4. Continue to a participating exchange or brokerage.
  5. Complete the order through that provider.

This makes the feature closer to an integrated trading gateway than a full brokerage service built into X.

Big Charts Expands Market Data on X

X has also expanded its financial interface with a feature called Big Charts.

The larger interactive charts are available on iOS and the web and cover widely followed crypto assets and stocks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, Dogecoin, Tesla, Strategy, and Coinbase.

Users can review price movements before deciding whether to continue to a participating trading platform.

The combination of charts, market discussion, and trading links pushes Cashtags beyond their original role as simple ticker search tools.

The Program Is Limited to US Users for Now

The Cashtag Partner Program is currently available in the United States.

X has not announced a timetable for expanding the brokerage and exchange links internationally.

A broader rollout would depend partly on the regulations governing securities and crypto trading in each market.

Even within the US, users may see different supported assets depending on the partner they choose and whether they meet that platform’s account requirements.

The expansion moves X closer to Elon Musk’s long-running goal of turning the platform into a broader service that combines communication with financial tools.

Smart Cashtags already brought market data and asset discussions into one interface. The new partner links add another layer by connecting those discussions with regulated trading platforms.

The current setup still stops short of making X a financial intermediary.

Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo continue to handle the regulated parts of the transaction, while X acts as the discovery and referral layer.

Financial discussions have long been a major part of X, particularly around crypto, individual stocks, and market-moving news.

Adding trading links reduces the number of steps between seeing information about an asset and reaching an order screen.

Notably, a post gaining attention on X does not mean the underlying asset suits a particular investor, and a Trade button does not verify claims in surrounding posts.

The participating exchange or brokerage still provides the actual trading service, but the decision-making process can begin much earlier inside the social feed.

X Is Expanding as Crypto and Traditional Markets Converge

The rollout also comes as traditional financial platforms become more closely connected with crypto and tokenized assets.

Brokerages are expanding digital asset access, crypto exchanges are adding more traditional market products, and financial institutions are experimenting with blockchain-based securities.

Rather than creating its own exchange or tokenized market, X is connecting users with existing trading providers.

What Comes Next

The first test will be how widely US users adopt the Trade option and whether X adds more exchange and brokerage partners.

The company could also expand more market data inside the app, or eventually bring the feature to additional countries. No international rollout schedule has been announced.

The larger question is whether X eventually moves beyond referral links and becomes more directly involved in financial transactions.

For now, users can discover and research assets on X, while the supported crypto and stock exchanges remain responsible for executing trades.

What this means for you: X has made it faster to move from a crypto or stock discussion to a trading platform. The Trade option directs users to partner services, so account rules, fees, custody, and execution still depend on the provider they choose.
