TLDR

  • BlackBerry stock surged around 7% in pre-market trading after QNX’s Alloy Kore platform landed its first commercial design win with Coretura, a software-defined vehicle platform company backed by Daimler Truck and Volvo Group.
  • Jim Cramer issued a buy call on BlackBerry, citing its pivot into automotive and robotics software.
  • Q2 fiscal 2027 earnings are scheduled for September 24, two days away.
  • RBC Capital reiterated a Sector Perform rating with a $9.00 price target, noting revenue could beat consensus estimates.
  • Stifel Canada’s Suthan Sukumar holds a Buy rating and $12 price target, pointing to continued QNX design-win momentum.

BlackBerry stock jumped roughly 7% in pre-market trading on Tuesday, driven by a combination of a commercial milestone for its QNX division, a high-profile media endorsement, and analyst commentary ahead of earnings.

The catalyst was a partnership announcement between QNX, BlackBerry’s embedded software unit, and partner Vector. Together, they secured Coretura as a customer for the Alloy Kore platform. Coretura is a software-defined vehicle company co-founded by Daimler Truck and Volvo Group.

This marks Alloy Kore’s first design win since the product launched. It signals that the platform is finding commercial traction beyond passenger vehicles and into heavy commercial trucks.

CNBC’s Jim Cramer added fuel to the move with a buy call, pointing to BlackBerry’s increasing focus on automotive and robotics software. Cramer’s endorsement came just ahead of the company’s Q2 fiscal 2027 earnings, set for September 24.

BB stock was trading around $9.12 in pre-market, up roughly 6.9% from the prior close of $8.53.

The broader market offered little help. The S&P 500 was up just 0.1%, the Dow was up 0.3%, and the Nasdaq was essentially flat. Automotive software peers Mobileye and Aptiv barely moved, confirming the rally was entirely BlackBerry-specific.

Analyst Views

RBC Capital analyst Paul Treiber reiterated a Sector Perform rating and a $9.00 price target. That target implies roughly 19% downside from the September 18 close of $11.16.

Treiber noted that BlackBerry has a history of issuing conservative quarterly guidance, and actual results could come in ahead of consensus on both revenue and adjusted EBITDA.

Stifel Canada analyst Suthan Sukumar takes a more bullish view. He carries a Buy rating and a $12 price target, describing BlackBerry as a mission-critical software layer in what he calls the physical AI stack.

Sukumar has argued that design-win momentum within QNX will keep building, and the Coretura announcement appears to support that view.

Earnings in Focus

With Q2 results just two days out, investors appear to be positioning ahead of the print. The stock is still well below its 52-week high of $13.59, leaving room for a move if results come in strong.

RBC sees a healthy quarter ahead, driven by the QNX segment. The firm does note that Secure Communications revenue may normalize after a strong prior quarter.

The combination of the Alloy Kore design win, Cramer’s call, and two analyst notes in quick succession created a concentrated pre-market setup going into earnings.
