Shopify is teaming up with Meta to let Muse, Meta’s new AI agent, complete purchases on behalf of users at Shopify stores. The integration runs through Shop Pay, Shopify’s one-tap checkout service.
SHOP stock closed up 7.3% at $137.92 on Monday following the news, and was up more than 5% in pre-market trading on Tuesday.
Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke announced the deal in a post on X, saying the partnership would offer an “easy and delightful way to shop and check out with Muse.”
Meta launched Muse earlier this month. It’s an AI agent designed to handle real-world tasks for users, including booking appointments, managing finances, and now, online shopping.

Meta’s Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang also posted about the deal, saying the company wants to give Muse users access to a wide range of stores to find “the absolute perfect products.”
Neither company offered additional details beyond those posts.
What Deutsche Bank Said
Deutsche Bank analysts framed the partnership as a positive for Shopify, pushing back on concerns that AI agents could hurt its business.
They said the deal actually reinforces Shopify’s core strengths, including its structured product data through Shopify Catalog, merchant connectivity, and the checkout infrastructure behind Shop Pay.
“The partnership suggests the opposite,” the analysts wrote, referring to fears that agentic AI shopping could disrupt Shopify’s model.
Amazon Goes the Other Way
While Shopify is opening its doors to Muse, Amazon is doing the opposite.
Amazon blocked Muse from shopping on its platform on Monday. The company said third-party applications making purchases on behalf of customers should respect a retailer’s right to opt out, and asked Meta to remove Amazon from Muse’s reach.
Amazon’s concern is tied to its ad business. AI shopping bots that bypass its native storefront could reduce the value of its advertising products, which are a major revenue driver.
Amazon’s block on Muse is part of a wider policy. Meta’s Muse, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Perplexity’s Comet are all currently blocked from making purchases on Amazon’s platform.
The contrast between Shopify and Amazon’s approaches puts Shopify in a position as the more AI-friendly commerce platform, at least for now.
Muse was made available to users just two weeks before this partnership was announced, making Shopify one of the first major e-commerce integrations for the agent.
