Solana Narrows Nasdaq Gap as Weekly DEX Trades Hit 208M

Solana just crossed a line that would have sounded improbable a few years ago.

Decentralized exchanges (DEXs) on the network processed roughly 208 million spot trades in the week ending Sept. 13, according to data cited by The Kobeissi Letter. That topped the 190 million trades recorded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) over the same period.

The gap with Nasdaq also narrowed to about 47 million trades, the smallest on record.

The comparison needs context. A Solana DEX swap is not economically equivalent to an equity trade on the NYSE. Trade sizes, market structure and underlying assets differ sharply. Still, the raw activity is difficult to ignore.

Jupiter Drives Solana’s Trading Surge

Much of the acceleration has come through Jupiter, Solana’s largest trading aggregator.

Jupiter has processed more than 80 million trades this month, according to the data, representing a 38% month-over-month increase. More broadly, weekly Solana spot DEX trade activity has climbed 185% from July lows.

Another widely circulated estimate from Solana Sensei, citing data from Defillama, puts total Solana DEX volume at about $168 billion so far in the third quarter, with current activity averaging roughly $2.5 billion per day.

For crypto investors, the distinction between trade count and dollar volume matters. But both measures point toward a network that is increasingly being used as active market infrastructure rather than simply as a venue for passive token holding.

Crypto Traders See a Shift Toward Onchain Markets

The milestone quickly caught the crypto community’s attention.

“Solana passing the NYSE in weekly spot DEX trades is absolutely wild. People are actually trading onchain at scale,” co-founder of Visionary Web3, Luciano wrote, pointing to the 208 million transactions and Jupiter’s activity.

Paul Barron offered a more exuberant reaction, writing: “Now you know, nothing stoppin[g] this train!”

The enthusiasm reflects a broader narrative taking shape across crypto: decentralized platforms are capturing levels of user activity that increasingly resemble those of established financial-market venues, even if the economic value behind each transaction remains very different.

SOL Price Adds Fuel to the Narrative

The trading surge is arriving as SOL’s price has reclaimed important long-term technical levels, including its 50-week moving average and exponential moving average.

Trader Sweep noted that the last comparable reclaim in 2023 preceded a roughly 650% rally over the following six months. Sweep suggested another strong move could follow, while stopping short of predicting a repeat.

That historical comparison is not a forecast, and technical setups rarely repeat cleanly.

Still, the combination of rising DEX usage, accelerating Jupiter activity and stronger SOL price action gives traders several metrics to watch at once.

Technically, Solana has not suddenly become bigger than the NYSE. However, the more consequential story is that a public blockchain just processed more individual weekly trades than one of the world’s most famous stock exchanges.

For onchain finance, that is a milestone worth paying attention to.
