The pseudonymous Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto has been a major topic of conversation amongst market players over the years. But more recently, Nakamoto’s name has come up again in crypto spaces for a recent development that Bitcoin supporters believe the Bitcoin creator may have facilitated.

Bitquery estimates that as many as 1.17 million bitcoin could be linked to Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of the cryptocurrency.

However, an audit of the reconstructed holdings found the identified stash remains overwhelmingly dormant, with 1,023,352 BTC (an estimated $86.2 billion during the time of this report) never having moved on the blockchain.

The firm also tracked 28 early coins that became active since 2020, yet none met its standards for confirming Satoshi ownership. As such the latest evidence provides no indication that the Bitcoin founder has returned to the market or begun moving any of the long-dormant holdings.

Crypto users have responded to the speculations in different ways but the majority maintains that whether or not the Bitcoin innovator moved their Bitcoins does little to nothing for the asset and the Bitcoin network as a functioning network is more important in the longterm.

As one user writes:

“The more interesting question is not whether Satoshi is moving. It’s why we still care so much. Bitcoin’s strongest test may be whether the network can keep functioning without its creator, even if those coins suddenly move tomorrow.”

How much Bitcoin does Satoshi Nakamoto have?

Satoshi Nakamoto is estimated to hold roughly 1.1 million BTC, according to blockchain analysis of early mining activity. The most widely cited figure stands at about 1.096 million BTC, based on the distinctive “Patoshi” pattern identified by researchers and tracked by Arkham Intelligence. This amount, accumulated through mining in Bitcoin’s first year, represents roughly 5.5% of the circulating supply.

A recent Bitquery audit places the range between approximately 0.89 million and 1.17 million BTC, depending on the strictness of the pattern applied, with more than 1.02 million of those coins remaining unmoved.

The figures are derived from on-chain forensics rather than confirmed ownership, and nearly all of the identified holdings have stayed dormant for more than 15 years. At report time, the apex cryptocurrency is trading at a price of $84,475.
