To run it, Meta hired MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai. He will take the title Chief Enterprise Platform Officer and report straight to Mark Zuckerberg.
Desai had only led MongoDB since November. He is leaving that post less than a year in to join Meta.
The new platform will package several of Meta’s AI products for corporate customers. That includes the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code.
Zuckerberg framed the launch as a major shift for the company. He said it marks the start of a new business pillar sitting alongside Meta’s advertising operations.
Why Meta Is Doing This
Zuckerberg pointed to Meta’s existing scale as the reason it can compete here. He noted the company already serves billions of consumers and works with hundreds of millions of businesses through its ad tools.
He said Meta’s advantages include its model development, its agent technology and its infrastructure. Combined with years of business relationships, Zuckerberg believes that gives Meta an edge over rivals building similar enterprise AI products.
The company plans to start by offering its full technology stack to developers and businesses. That means the tools Meta already uses internally are now being turned into products others can pay for.
The New Hire
Desai brings a background suited to enterprise software. Before MongoDB, he led product and engineering at Cloudflare.
He also spent almost eight years at ServiceNow, eventually rising to President and COO there. Zuckerberg cited that track record, along with Desai’s experience in AI, infrastructure and security, as reasons for the hire.
In a statement, Desai said AI is going to change how companies of all sizes operate. He said Meta’s combination of advanced models and existing business relationships gives it a unique position to help.
Desai added that security and privacy will be built into the new enterprise products from the start. He said this mirrors how Meta approached its Muse agent.
MongoDB confirmed Desai’s departure the same day. Dev Ittycheria, who Desai replaced last November, is returning as interim president and CEO while MongoDB searches for a permanent replacement.
MongoDB stock fell 20% in premarket trading following the news. Meta has not indicated how quickly it expects Meta Enterprise Platform to start generating revenue.
