Ethereum is taking center stage as core developers prepare for its next major technical milestone.

The upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade has officially entered its final pre-deployment phase, with a targeted Sepolia testnet fork scheduled for October 6, 2026, ahead of its expected mainnet rollout later in the fourth quarter.

Moving away from massive, high-risk bundled releases, Ethereum’s current development cycle emphasizes targeted, structural optimization. Glamsterdam focuses on three core pillars designed to streamline execution and safeguard long-term node decentralization.

First of all, spearheaded by implementations like EIP-7928 (Block-Level Access Lists), the upgrade optimizes execution efficiency, allowing the network to process transactions with reduced friction and better MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) handling.

Snap Sync v2 is designed to simplify and accelerate node syncing, making it significantly easier for new validators to join the network.

Implementing structural adjustments to protect network sustainability against long-term database expansion, paving the way for advanced scaling tools down the line.

Ethereum Surpasses Bitcoin on Hyperliquid

Beyond protocol architecture, Ethereum’s market structure is showing aggressive engagement across decentralized finance (DeFi) derivatives. In a notable shift, open interest (OI) for Ethereum on the high-performance decentralized perpetual exchange Hyperliquid recently surpassed Bitcoin, with ETH open interest reaching roughly $3.02 billion compared to Bitcoin’s $2.80 billion.

This milestone highlights surging speculative and hedging demand as ETH price action tests upper resistance boundaries near the $2,700 mark.

Combined with robust institutional staking inflows, such as large corporate treasuries expanding their validator footprints, Ethereum enters the final quarter of 2026 balancing heavy technical evolution with growing institutional-grade market participation.
