Binance Pay USDT payments are expanding in Japan as eligible overseas users can now spend the stablecoin at most PayPay-supported merchants nationwide. The service, available from September 30, connects Binance Pay with Japan’s established QR payment infrastructure through HIVEX, while participating merchants continue receiving settlement in Japanese yen.
The rollout targets international visitors using Binance Pay during trips to Japan. Through the integration, users can make payments across millions of merchant locations, including businesses serving dining, shopping and accommodation needs. Binance said the connection gives approximately 48 million eligible Binance Pay users across more than 100 countries and regions access.

Binance Pay USDT Connects With HIVEX
HIVEX serves as the interoperability layer connecting overseas payment services with local merchant networks. The architecture has been developed by TBCASoft for the interconnection of payment ecosystems, acceptance partners, and payment networks while enabling participating systems to retain their governance, compliance, and business deals.
The Binance Pay and HIVEX collaboration was revealed in August, with both firms aiming to launch the service in Japan first. According to HIVEX, the agreement would facilitate QR payments using the Customer Present Mode and Merchant Present Mode, which enables participating users to communicate with merchant endpoints without any need for bilateral integration with each merchant network.
The architecture makes the distinction between customer payment and merchant settlement. Binance Pay is responsible for managing the eligible user and related controls, while HIVEX and local acceptance partners manage merchant connectivity and settlement arrangements. Hence, the merchants supported by PayPay in Japan receive yen payments even if the eligible tourist pays using digital currencies through Binance Pay.
PayPay Expands Existing Cross-Border QR Infrastructure
PayPay is also capable of delivering overseas payment services via HIVEX, which means that the infrastructure already exists for making international QR payments. The merchant network includes large chains, small shops, vending machines, taxis, and even public transport. Binance Pay is integrated into an ecosystem that is able to deliver payments using digital assets in an infrastructure that is used for cross-border spending.
According to Binance, its Japanese launch is based on its QR payment ecosystem in major Asian travel hubs. The company focused on cross-border spending, but HIVEX is supposed to link different payment ecosystems and devices using acceptance partners.
For merchants, the main advantage is minimal since there is no need to create a separate system of cryptocurrency payments for integration with PayPay. PayPay-enabled locations will be able to receive funds in local currencies, while the payment infrastructure will help to connect the visitor’s account with Binance Pay to the merchant’s acceptance network.
Binance Pay USDT Targets Japan’s Growing Visitor Market
The payments rollout is coming amid Japan’s handling of an extensive international tourism industry. The country received its record high of 42.7 million international tourists in 2025, as per Japan’s tourism statistics. This pool of travelers represents an immense customer base for the payment service, which seeks to link international travelers to merchant infrastructure in the country.
The travel figures have still been high in 2026, despite the year-to-year decline observed during the month of August. In August 2026, Japan welcomed 3,098,900 foreigners, a drop of 9.6% from August 2025. However, 14 markets recorded their highest-ever August figures.
The Japan National Tourism Organization cited factors such as holidays and public holidays, fewer flights, and typhoons as some of the causes behind the changes in August’s figures. These numbers highlight the significance of interoperable payments for travelers who already use digital wallets and different payment mechanisms in their home countries.
Binance Pay USDT Expands Digital-Asset Payment Reach
The Japan launch also continues Binance Pay’s payment solution by going beyond cryptocurrency-based merchants and integrating into existing merchant infrastructure in Japan. As per Binance, their payment system supports over 300 cryptocurrencies, and they have managed to facilitate more than $321 billion in transaction volumes since their launch in 2021.
The main breakthrough for USDT users in this case is that they can spend a digital dollar asset and get their payments in Yen. This kind of setup makes it easier for merchants not to manage the cryptocurrency that is being used by customers. The importance of this is more about interoperability rather than the launch of a merchant in itself.
According to HIVEX, their partnership with Binance Pay can be developed further down the road in other payment setups, other markets, and other forms. In essence, what the Japan launch represents is the first implementation of such a framework where digital asset users are integrated to the local payment networks.
Availability of the service depends on the eligibility of individuals as well as payment conditions, while merchants will stay within the PayPay acceptance environment. Japan is the immediate market for this launch; the two firms expressed intentions of developing cooperation further in other markets.
