TLDR
- DogeOS launched its public testnet on September 30, supporting Ethereum-compatible applications using test DOGE.
- Planned projects cover lending, trading, stablecoins, and games, with availability depending on individual development schedules.
- Selected operators and protected hardware handle network checks; Dogecoin miners do not yet verify application proofs.
- The proposed OP_CHECKZKP upgrade would enable Dogecoin to check proofs, but its implementation remains unfinished.
- DogeOS has announced no mainnet launch date, and the proposed Dogecoin upgrade has no activation schedule.
DogeOS opened its public testnet on September 30, allowing developers to build trading, lending and other applications using DOGE. The project aims to give Dogecoin holders access to services beyond payments and holding coins in their wallets.
The network supports Ethereum development tools and uses test DOGE for transaction fees. It operates separately from Dogecoin, whose blockchain does not run these applications directly.
DogeOS Opens Access for Developers
Developers can deploy contracts through the network’s published connection details and Foundry guide. A faucet distributes test DOGE once every 24 hours, providing tokens for experiments without requiring market purchases.
The launch follows renewed activity around Dogecoin. A September 27 report tracked DOGE near $0.0985 as large holders accumulated coins. These market figures do not establish demand for applications on the new network.
DogeOS named Barkswap, Superposition Finance, Derps and Split Markets among projects developing financial services. Other announced projects include the USDoge stablecoin, prediction markets, token launchpads and games.
Selected Operators Handle Network Checks
The announcement does not confirm that every listed application works on the testnet. Individual teams control their release schedules. Available materials provide no confirmed transaction totals or active user figures for those applications.
Separately, Robinhood’s planned crypto futures include Dogecoin among eight supported assets. That proposal concerns another trading venue, while DogeOS developers are preparing applications for a separate network.
DogeOS currently relies on selected validators, protected computing hardware and an authorized operator that orders transactions. A Security Council oversees this structure. Dogecoin miners do not yet check its application proofs themselves.
Upgrade and Mainnet Dates Remain Unset
DogeOS intends to bring proof checks to Dogecoin through OP_CHECKZKP, a proposed change to Dogecoin Core. The proposal appeared in July 2025. A separate December implementation remains a draft with an unfinished proof checker.
The project’s development continues amid wider crypto market weakness reported on September 29. That report described pressure across major tokens as Treasury yields rose. It did not provide evidence of usage or adoption for DogeOS.
Founder and CEO Jordan Jefferson said the team would share a mainnet timeline as development progresses. DogeOS has announced no launch date, and the proposed Dogecoin upgrade has no activation schedule. The current testnet therefore remains a development environment, with application availability and direct verification by Dogecoin miners still pending.
