On Sunday, September 27, 2026, Crypto Briefing reported that River Exchange, a US-based Bitcoin financial services company, filed a lawsuit against a Canadian Bitcoin mining firm, seeking roughly $6.7 million in unpaid refunds.
According to the report, the dispute arises from a contract between the two companies that was canceled. River alleges that the miner has not returned money owed following the termination of the agreement. The report states that River claims the refunds total between $6.7 million and $7 million, and that the defendant has allegedly refused to pay.
The identity of the Canadian miner has not been made public. The specific terms of the original contract have also not been disclosed.
Court filings confirming the jurisdiction in which the suit was brought, as well as the exact filing date, have not appeared in public records. The report noted this could indicate the case was filed recently or that the proceedings are under seal.
Crypto Briefing said legal disputes between US financial services firms and Canadian mining operations have surfaced repeatedly in the Bitcoin mining industry. Such cases typically involve disagreements over equipment or energy supply, or the termination of service agreements.
The report added that publicly traded mining companies routinely disclose material litigation in their quarterly filings. No such disclosure from a Canadian miner has surfaced, which suggests the defendant may be a privately held company.
