The Aptos MonoMove Upgrade represents a new execution engine that was developed to ensure higher speed and efficiency of Move smart contract execution in the Aptos ecosystem.
The upgrade was introduced by Aptos in a series of X posts on October 6, with the company claiming that their internal tests have demonstrated up to 55x performance improvements in certain workloads.
The Aptos MonoMove Upgrade is focused on optimizing the Move Virtual Machine (VM) and the entire execution stack. Nevertheless, the claimed performance gains were obtained only during the Aptos internal tests and have not been verified on the Aptos mainnet.
This comes as Aptos continues to focus on improving the network’s performance amid an increase in transaction activity. According to Aptos, MonoMove can enhance execution in financial apps that include vaults, loans, payments, and on-chain markets.

What Happened With the Aptos MonoMove Upgrade?
The Aptos MonoMove Upgrade was put through its paces by Aptos by testing how the software would perform by redoing actual transactions made via the DecibelTrade on-chain trading exchange. Different results were obtained depending on the type of transaction.
According to Aptos, there was a notable increase in transaction speed for different kinds of transactions. Collateral withdrawal is 55 times faster, vault request transactions are 40 times faster, while perpetual-market requests are 38 times faster, and order placement is 22 times faster.
These numbers represent execution speeds, not general network performance. Consequently, this means that the increase in speed of 55x does not imply that all Aptos transactions will be 55 times faster after the upgrade on the mainnet.
These results are obtained based on benchmarks conducted by Aptos themselves. An independent test will have to be done to see how the Aptos MonoMove Upgrade works under varying conditions.
Aptos CEO Shares More MonoMove Performance Results
Additionally, Avery Ching, who is the founder and CEO of Aptos, talked about the Aptos MonoMove Upgrade on X.
According to Ching, production workloads at DecibelTrade performed almost 10 times faster, whereas some Move micro-benchmarks improved by over 50 times.
Furthermore, Ching stated that MonoMove was developed keeping safety and formal verification in mind. However, performance metrics stated above still need to be confirmed independently.
These findings are significant since they point out where Aptos thinks the new execution model will be able to enhance performance. It is true that execution speed might depend on the workload as well as on hardware.
Aptos Reports Up to 11x Higher Throughput
Additionally, Aptos tested the Aptos MonoMove Upgrade on a wider range of financial loads, which involved order books, borrows/lends, and payments.
According to the tests, the company observed 11x greater end-to-end throughput compared to its current virtual machine.
The company stated that such tests were carried out without further optimizations and Block-STM, its parallel execution technique.
The company believes that these tests imply that execution might no longer be the main performance bottleneck in those tests but rather storage.
Therefore, faster contract execution will not mean the same boost of network throughput because other components of the blockchain architecture will restrict it.
MonoMove Adds Additional Safety Checks
The Aptos MonoMove Upgrade follows the previous rules set by Move while implementing runtime validation in order to detect any flaws in the VM or the verifier. In addition to this, Aptos will be doing differential testing between MonoMove and its current engine.
It is still in development and is being implemented into the Aptos execution environment.
According to plans, the set of features will become feature-complete by the end of 2026, whereas the mainnet release is expected in 2027.
A governance vote will be required for its implementation. The exact date of the mainnet launch or the time when the governance proposal will be created has not been disclosed yet by the team.
Until that moment, all reported performance boosts are just internal testing results.
Earlier Aptos Developments
The Aptos MonoMove Upgrade arrives amidst the blockchain’s ongoing development of infrastructure for payments, stablecoins, and other financial use cases.
In May 2026, BDACS and Aptos launched a partnership that centered on growth within the KRW1 stablecoin ecosystem. This project was set out to facilitate growth within the ecosystem for the stablecoin based on the Korean Won.

Moreover, Aptos has developed an encrypted mempool solution to conceal information about pending transactions until the transaction order is determined. The objective of this solution is to minimize front-running and other activities associated with MEV, and its governance vote ended on October 6.
The platform has also recently hit over 4.5 billion total transactions during the year, illustrating the volume of transactions made via the network and emphasizing the need for improved performance.
Currently, the Aptos MonoMove Upgrade is under development. The completion of all its features is projected to occur by the end of 2026, with its launch to mainnet set for 2027.
