TLDR

  • Polygon’s Open Money Stack now supports the TRON network for USDT transfers.
  • TRON holds more than $94 billion in circulating USDT, the largest amount of any blockchain network.
  • Businesses can move USDT between TRON and EVM networks through one transaction flow.
  • Polygon has processed over $3 trillion in total payments volume as of September 21.
  • The update connects TRON to U.S. banking rails through licensed fiat on-ramps and off-ramps.

Polygon Labs has updated its Open Money Stack platform to support the TRON network. The platform helps businesses move the dollar-pegged token USDT across different blockchains. With this update, TRON becomes part of that system.

Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal said the change is meant for companies that want to offer digital dollar services. He said the goal is to give businesses one connection instead of juggling separate tools for banking, wallets, and routing funds.

The feature is built for remittance firms, fintech companies, and payment platforms. A customer could fund a transfer using a bank transfer, debit card, or cash. The funds would then convert into USDT and land in a TRON wallet.

This setup does not turn TRON into a bank. Payment companies still need their own licenses to operate legally. The integration simply combines steps that used to require several different providers.

How the TRON Integration Works

Polygon said businesses can now move USDT between TRON and supported EVM networks without separately connecting to a wallet provider, bridge, or fiat-ramp operator. All of those pieces now run through a single transaction flow.

TRON is one of the most used networks for moving USDT around the world. More than $94 billion of Tether’s token circulates there. The network recorded over $30 trillion in stablecoin transfer volume during the second quarter of this year.

About 93% of that volume on TRON was peer-to-peer, the highest share tracked by CoinDesk among the networks it measures. Peer-to-peer transfers move funds directly between users rather than through an exchange.

TRON founder Justin Sun said stablecoins are becoming infrastructure for everyday financial activity. He pointed to payments, remittances, and treasury management as examples. Sun said the partnership links TRON’s ecosystem to traditional financial rails through Polygon.

Polygon’s Broader Payment Push

Polygon launched Open Money Stack in January. The company built it after moving to acquire Coinme and Sequence. Coinme holds U.S. money-transmitter licenses, while Sequence provides wallet tools for businesses.

One part of the stack, Polygon Ramps, connects users to fiat on-ramps and off-ramps. It relies on licenses and compliance systems covering 48 U.S. states. That allows dollars to enter or exit the system through regulated channels.

The stack also offers programmable accounts. Businesses can create and manage TRON wallets using the same tools they use on other supported networks. This removes the need for a separate wallet provider on each chain.

A third part of the system handles movement between chains. Businesses can route USDT between TRON and networks such as Polygon Chain in one transaction. The bridging and conversion happen in the background.

Polygon Labs CEO Marc Boiron said the company built the platform so payment firms could plug in once. He said adding TRON brings a large pool of USDT liquidity into that same system. Boiron said businesses can move funds onto U.S. banking rails or across chains with licensing already in place.

The update can also support other business uses. A marketplace could accept USDT on TRON, hold funds in a programmable account, and pay a seller through an EVM network or a bank account.

Polygon has processed more than $3 trillion in total payments volume as of September 21. The company said this marks the first phase of TRON support within Open Money Stack. More assets, markets, and payment features are expected to follow.
