Strategy Bitcoin purchasing is again under the spotlight since Strategy’s Chairman Michael Saylor mentioned potential BTC buying in his post on X on Sunday.
He said, “There’s always room for more orange,” meaning that his company still has room for further additions to the Bitcoin that it currently holds. Nevertheless, it was only speculation since no confirmation has been made yet by Strategy.
An update via the next filing with the SEC could come as early as Tuesday since Monday would be a holiday in honor of Columbus Day. It could reveal if Strategy has made any additional purchases of BTC or how the firm used its funds in early October.

Strategy Bitcoin Purchases Follow a Week of Heavy Stock Buybacks
Transactions recently reported by Strategy reveal that the firm invested much higher sums in preferred stock repurchases compared to Bitcoin acquisitions within the week ended on October 4.
According to its Form 8-K filing dated October 5, Strategy acquired 334 BTC amounting to roughly $28.7 million over the period from September 28 to October 4, leaving the firm with precisely 848,000 BTC at that point.

Meanwhile, STRC has repurchased approximately 1.77 million shares of its preferred stock for a total value of $176.3 million. The capital utilized in buying back these shares was more than six times higher than what was used to purchase Bitcoin in that week.
The figures above give insight into how Strategy ensures that its Bitcoin acquisition plan does not clash with other financing considerations. Even though the firm is well-known due to its massive holding of BTC, it must also consider its commitment to preferred stock and cash, among others.
These most recent figures do not indicate any shift by Strategy in terms of its strategy in acquiring Bitcoin over the long term.
Strategy Bitcoin Strategy May Include Building Cash Reserves
Recently, Strategy’s finance activities have created doubt about the portion of capital raised by its sale of shares that ends up in the purchase of Bitcoin.
An independent analyst, Shanaka Anslem Perera, brought out the concern in an analysis on Saturday. According to him, Strategy raised $5.41 billion via common share sales in the third quarter of 2026. Nevertheless, the corporation had merely 1,666 additional BTC by the end of the quarter compared to the amount it had in June.
According to Perera, Strategy’s SEC filings showed that 9.5% of the money generated was invested in buying Bitcoin. Other investments include the formation of cash buffers, a dollar buffer, dividend payouts, and the repurchase of preferred shares.
The information gives us a bigger picture of the financial decisions made by the firm. It is not the case that the firm has billions of dollars worth of Bitcoin just because it raises that much money.
Additionally, Perera mentioned that “bitcoin per share is only one factor” in the analysis of the financial standing of common stockholders, along with the need for cash reserves. Debt and preferred stock have financial considerations that have to be taken into account in assessing the financial standing of the company.
In terms of Strategy, the cash retained might give greater flexibility in purchasing Bitcoin at a later date, or meet its financial obligations. But the company has yet to disclose any information on the use of the retained capital in buying up BTC.
Strategy Bitcoin Holdings Record a Large Quarterly Gain
In addition to the aforementioned filing, Strategy’s filing dated October 5 contained information regarding the performance of its digital assets portfolio in the third quarter of 2026.
According to the filing, the company recorded gains from the sale of digital assets amounting to $20.91 billion in the quarter under review, with the corresponding deferred tax expense standing at $1.88 billion.
It is worth noting that the gains mentioned above are accounting gains rather than cash flows, since cash flows can only be realized through the sale of the company’s digital assets.
These numbers explain why the success of Strategy cannot be measured simply by its weekly Bitcoin investments. The profits made from digital assets, cash on hand, and preferred stocks all impact how it runs its treasury.
Investors must also take into account the Bitcoin positions held by the company and how it finances them because changes in shares, cash, and preferred stocks will determine how much capital is left for future investments.
What Comes Next for Strategy Bitcoin Purchases?
Saylor has highlighted that the next Bitcoin purchase by Strategy has been brought to notice through his post on Sunday. He hasn’t yet confirmed anything about a new purchase, though.
The next SEC filing should provide details about whether there was any new purchase of Bitcoin made by Strategy and at what cost.
The performance of Strategy as it juggles between purchases of Bitcoin and cash will be under scrutiny. Cash can help in making more purchases in the future, but there’s no certainty of the same.
