Binance Pay Expands Agentic Payments Into Real-World Commerce

Binance Pay announced on October 13, 2026 the expansion of agentic payments into real-world commerce, extending its strategy of connecting cryptocurrency wallets to established local payment networks rather than requiring merchants to install new hardware. The announcement follows integrations in Japan and Bhutan disclosed in recent months.

Japan Integration Through PayPay

On September 30, 2026, Binance Pay launched at participating PayPay merchants in Japan through HIVEX, enabling eligible overseas visitors to pay for dining, shopping, accommodation and other expenses. Merchants receive Japanese yen, according to a PayPay Corporation press release dated September 30, 2026. Binance Japan users residing in Japan are excluded from the service. PayPay cited approximately 48 million eligible Binance Pay users across more than 100 countries and regions, using figures dated June 1, 2026.

Bhutan Merchant Expansion

In Bhutan, Binance announced on August 17, 2026 expansion from a tourism pilot launched in May 2025 to more than 3,700 merchants using DK Bank QR codes. Customers enter amounts in Bhutanese ngultrum; Binance describes settlement in USDT with automatic foreign-exchange conversion and zero extra customer fees through December 31, 2026, according to the company’s official blog post dated August 17, 2026.

Platform Metrics and Infrastructure Expansion

Binance’s September 30, 2026 Japan launch release reported more than 21 million merchants globally and cumulative transaction volume exceeding $321 billion since the service launched in 2021. These are company-reported platform metrics, not independently audited retail-sales figures. On September 14, 2026, Binance announced Pay Onchain, On-Ramp as a Service and Agent Pay with x402, expanding business-facing payment infrastructure to support wallet funding, account top-ups, merchant payments and AI-agent payments for APIs and digital services. Availability depends on region and applicable terms.

Previous Targets and Expansion Timeline

On May 5, 2026, Binance reported $40 million in local-QR transactions across six countries during the first year and targeted expansion to at least 10 countries by Q3 2026. The October 13, 2026 announcement of agentic payments into real-world commerce follows these prior disclosures, though the company has not separately confirmed whether the Q3 2026 country-expansion target was achieved.
