NVIDIA broadens European science access with open tools and compute

NVIDIA said it is widening access to its models, software, training and compute resources for Europe’s scientific community as the European Commission launched the AI in Science Enablers Initiative in Dublin on Thursday. The pledge is aimed at researchers, startups and smaller labs that often face the largest barriers before any scientific work begins: tools, expertise and compute.

Evidence and context

According to NVIDIA’s Oct. 15, 2026 blog post, the company is joining the campaign with access to accelerated tools, models and platforms; compute, cloud and data resources; skills, training and technical support; collaborative projects and pilots; and support for startups and ecosystem development. European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva said the campaign is intended to turn the bloc’s AI-in-science ambitions into concrete commitments that give researchers the tools, expertise and resources to innovate.

The pledge builds on NVIDIA’s existing open ecosystem. The company said it has released more than 250 open models, 250 open datasets and more than 1,400 open-source software projects across areas including large language models, healthcare, robotics, climate science, physical AI, autonomous vehicles and scientific research. NVIDIA also pointed to Nemotron, BioNeMo Agent Toolkit, PhysicsNeMo, Earth-2 models and ALCHEMI NIM microservices as tools researchers can use across biology, chemistry, molecular design, weather and climate, energy, engineering, physics and materials science.

NVIDIA said its Deep Learning Institute has launched a new open-source courseware hub with freely downloadable, openly licensed materials covering accelerated computing and deep learning. The company said the courses can be adapted for university curricula, supercomputing-center bootcamps and developer events, and can feed into its broader training and certification programs.

On compute access, NVIDIA said it is working with cloud infrastructure partners and national AI factories in France, Spain and Sweden to expand routes for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises to access sovereign European compute and services. It said the Inception program provides startups with compute resources and technical support. The blog cited AI2F in France as the first AI factory to collaborate with Inception for four months, and said the Barcelona Supercomputing Center AI Factory has run a pilot and is moving to a first full accelerator program. Sweden AI Factory, one of Europe’s 19 EuroHPC-funded AI factories, also announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to open infrastructure and expertise to Inception startups and SMEs.

NVIDIA further said EuroHPC supercomputing centers including CINECA and JSC are providing academia and startups with free access to NVIDIA GPU infrastructure and services for open research. It also said it is co-organizing a European AI hackathon this month with Austrian Scientific Computing, the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart and The Cyprus Institute for Pharos-CY.

The company framed the pledge within a broader infrastructure push, saying 35 supercomputers are currently in development across Europe. NVIDIA described that as the largest single-year buildout of supercomputing capacity Europe has ever seen and said the systems will support more than 3 million researchers. The figure is NVIDIA’s own characterization in the Oct. 15 post and should be read as a company-reported projection rather than an independently verified count.

Related announcements this year underscore the scale of NVIDIA’s regional research push. On June 22, 2026, the company said Europe was adding 35 new AI supercomputers, and on Oct. 14, 2026, it said it would commit $250 million over five years to advance UK agentic safety and security research. The latest pledge extends that pattern, but the blog does not provide new funding amounts for the European AI in Science Enablers initiative itself.

Timing for the next verified catalyst was not supplied in the source material.
