Google rolls out Universal Cart across Search and Gemini in the U.S.

Google said its Universal Cart is now rolling out in the U.S. across Google Search and the Gemini app, expanding a shopping tool designed to help users save items from multiple retailers, track price and inventory changes, and complete purchases more directly. The company said the cart is intended to organize shopping across Google while keeping users aware of merchants, savings and checkout options.

Evidence and context

In the company’s Oct. 15, 2026 update, Google described Universal Cart as an intelligent shopping cart that saves products across Google services, including examples from Search and Gemini, so shoppers can return to a list without starting over. Google said the tool is built on more than 60 billion continuously refreshed product listings in its Shopping Graph, which allows it to send notifications about price drops and items coming back into stock.

Google also said Universal Cart can surface savings opportunities by using Google Wallet to recognize card benefits and show relevant promo codes. For checkout, the company said users can pay with Google Pay in a few taps at participating stores or transfer items to a merchant’s cart to finish on the retailer’s site. Google named Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Wayfair and many Shopify merchants as examples of supported stores.

The company said retailers remain the seller of record and that customers receive confirmations and support from the merchant. That distinction matters because it separates Google’s shopping interface from the underlying transaction relationship with the retailer.

Google first announced Universal Cart on May 19, 2026, and previously said Search and Gemini availability in the U.S. would arrive in summer 2026. The Oct. 15 update describes the feature as now rolling out, but the reviewed material does not establish whether every earlier promised surface has completed its rollout. Google’s separate work on the Universal Commerce Protocol and related payment infrastructure should not be conflated with autonomous purchasing claims beyond the functionality described in the announcement.
