Ledger has unveiled Atom, a new Android-based security device designed to protect cryptocurrency transactions, digital identities, private communications and AI agent activity through isolated hardware security.
The October 15 launch at Ledger Op3n 2026 in Paris introduces a device combining everyday Android applications with Ledger’s Secure Element and proprietary Ledger OS, allowing sensitive operations to be approved separately from the main operating system.
Atom also introduces new hardware tamper-detection protections following recent attacks involving modified Ledger wallets sold through third-party distributors.
The device is scheduled to ship in summer 2027, with Founders Edition reservations available for $849 through a refundable $100 deposit.
Android Apps Run Separately From Ledger’s Secure Operating System
Ledger Atom uses a hardened version of the Android Open Source Project alongside a separate Secure Element running Ledger OS.
The dual-environment architecture isolates cryptocurrency private keys, authentication credentials and transaction approvals from regular applications.
A dedicated FPGA circuit controls access to the display and touchscreen. When a sensitive operation requires authorization, Ledger OS takes control of the screen through Secure Mode, preventing ordinary Android applications from modifying the transaction details presented for approval.
The device also features a physical privacy switch that disconnects its camera and microphone at the circuit level.
Atom includes a 6.8-inch AMOLED display, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, NFC and a 4,000mAh battery.
Unlike a conventional smartphone, it is a data-only device without cellular voice calling or SMS support. Internet-based communication remains available through compatible applications.
Solana Partnership Brings 1,500 Apps and AI Agent Support
Ledger has partnered with Solana Mobile to bring its Seeker ecosystem directly to Atom, becoming the first external hardware manufacturer to integrate the platform.
The Solana Mobile partnership will provide a preinstalled Seeker application combining wallet functionality with access to more than 1,500 decentralized applications.
Users will be able to explore Solana trading, payments, gaming and AI applications while approving transactions through Ledger’s isolated security environment.
Atom will also support Ledger Agent Intent, allowing users to review and authorize actions proposed by AI agents without sharing their private keys.
The system supports programmable permissions and approval policies, with integrations involving OpenClaw and other agent platforms.
Additional planned features include encrypted messaging, hardware-backed identity verification and secure authentication through passkeys.
New Tamper Protections Follow Ledger Hardware Wallet Attacks
Atom’s security architecture introduces an active protective shield around its Secure Element and associated components, designed to detect physical attempts to open, probe or modify sensitive hardware.
The protections follow the recent CryptoBilis wallet attacks, involving genuine Ledger devices modified with hidden components capable of capturing recovery phrases during wallet initialization.
Ledger confirmed that the attackers modified devices after they entered third-party distribution channels, while its internal systems and Secure Element remained unaffected.
The incident also prompted Trezor to reduce its reseller network as an additional supply-chain precaution.
Atom introduces enclosure monitoring and tamper-detection mechanisms intended to identify unauthorized hardware modifications that conventional software authenticity checks cannot detect.
Ledger will sell Atom exclusively through its official website rather than authorized third-party resellers.
Ledger Atom Founders Edition Opens at $849
The Founders Edition reservation program offers early customers a special $849 price with a fully refundable $100 deposit.
The package includes a protective accessory, privacy screen protector, Ledger Recovery Key and additional partner benefits.
Ledger is targeting summer 2027 for deliveries, subject to certification and regulatory approvals. The company has cautioned that final specifications, pricing and delivery schedules may change before commercial release.
