Hotter U.S. inflation set the tone. September CPI came in at 3.7%, above the 3.6% that analysts expected.

South Korea added to the pressure when its stock market triggered a circuit breaker after a sharp drop. Traders moved out of risk assets, and Ethereum took the heaviest forced selling.

Liquidations and ETF Outflows

About $292 million of ETH positions were liquidated in 24 hours. Of that, 92% were longs. Bitcoin saw $200.62 million in liquidations over the same period.

The slide extends a pullback of about 15% from the roughly $2,800 high set near the end of September. Spot ETFs added to the pressure. Ethereum funds recorded a $129.5 million net outflow on October 14, and BlackRock clients sold $109.8 million of that.

Blockto noted that spot volume on exchanges has not recovered since the 2025 all-time high. It has now sunk to its lowest level, which means each wave of selling can move the price further.

Analyst Ted Pillows reported that a whale opened a $92,173,000 ETH long with 14x leverage. He said the position was only $64 away from full liquidation.

Open interest data from CoinGlass shows that derivatives positioning grew sharply in August and stayed high through September. It then declined in October as ETH pulled back from its early-October highs.

Arkham’s labeled wallet data shows Vitalik Buterin holding about $530 million, almost all of it in ETH.

Chart Analysis and Key Levels

On the daily chart, $2,394 is now the first resistance. ETH is trading just beneath it after losing the level. Reclaiming it would open the way to $2,500, with the roughly $2,800 high as the next target.

TradingView data shows the RSI at 39.44, below its average of 47.85. The OBV reading of 34.73 million suggests buying pressure has not yet recovered. The next major support is $2,141.59, a level that has marked turning points since 2024. The level to watch next is $2,394, since a reclaim and hold there would suggest the liquidation flush has run its course.

Ted Pillows also posted a market update. He said ETH swept the lows at $2,315, the top of the weekly bull market support band, then ran to $2,450, up 3.6% from the morning. RSI bounced from 34 to 41. About $11.4 million in shorts were liquidated on OKX, against $1.2 million in longs.

Pillows added that MVRV stands at 1.06 and that ETF demand is the weak spot. He is watching resistance at $2,470 to $2,500 and support at $2,400, $2,315 and $2,140. He said a reclaim of $2,500 would turn the short term around, while a daily close below $2,315 opens $2,140.

At last check, ETH was priced at $2,437.86, up 1.41% over 24 hours, with a market cap of about $297.76 billion.
