In his latest X post, Michael Saylor has announced another Bitcoin purchase.

For context, in Q3, Strategy bought 1,666 BTC, bringing its total holdings to 847k BTC. That said, it is worth noting that the purchases were relatively modest compared to Strategy’s large-scale accumulation campaigns in early 2024.

Nevertheless, Strategy (MSTR) does not seem to be cooling down since it bought another 250 BTC between the 5th and 11th of October, taking its total holdings to 848,250 BTC.

In this light, Saylor’s latest post indicates that the biggest Bitcoin DAT is building on this momentum, signaling continued conviction in BTC.

However, it is the timing of this move that makes it particularly interesting.

Strive has also been ramping up its BTC accumulation in October. The company acquired 3,311 BTC between the 5th and 9th of October, and then 2,822 BTC, raising its share to 35,595 BTC.

Together with Strategy’s latest purchase, this may indicate that institutional appetite for Bitcoin [BTC] is growing across the board, rather than coming from a single company.

So, what exactly is smart money betting on?

Is this just “buying the fear,” or is some of the institutional money realizing something that the rest of the market has yet to realize

Notably, key on-chain signals suggest this accumulation trend could have more to it than meets the eye.

Bitcoin’s relative strength puts a Q4 recovery on the radar

Saylor’s latest signal is in harmony with several positive on-chain developments.

From a technical perspective, Bitcoin’s consolidation around $80k comes as the crypto market’s RSI is in a weak zone. This is a bearish sign, suggesting that selling pressure is dominating the market, so long-term investors can take advantage of the weakness and buy BTC at a discount.

Notably, a similar scenario has been observed before, which led to accumulation periods.

According to AMBCrypto, this is where the chart below begins to show how quickly market sentiment is turning. The stock market Fear & Greed Index fell from 46 to 18, and now moves into extreme fear. The Nasdaq sentiment score also declined from 77 to 53, falling from extreme greed to neutral.

Both are near 30-day lows, suggesting that risk appetite for U.S. equities has turned sharply lower.

Meanwhile, BTC/Silver is bouncing off a multiyear support trendline. The last two times the pair bounced from this level, it rallied over 1,200% in 2021-22 and 412% in 2024-25. Since the ratio follows Bitcoin’s performance against Silver, this could be an early sign of BTC regaining strength against the metal.

What makes this setup interesting is the broader market backdrop. The US equity space is cooling off, crypto RSI is weak, and if Bitcoin can hold, it could very well benefit from its relative strength as investors readjust their exposure. With the midterm elections approaching, this could help Bitcoin serve as a macro hedge.

Against this backdrop, Saylor’s latest BTC buy signal could be a move to get ahead of a potential wave of institutional buying in Q4.

Final Summary

  • Strategy and Strive continue buying Bitcoin despite market uncertainty.

  • Bitcoin’s strength against silver could signal a potential Q4 recovery.
