TLDR

  • Solana trades near $106 and has held above $100 through several days of selling pressure.
  • The Alpenglow upgrade goes live on mainnet Oct. 21 and cuts finality from about 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds.
  • Solana ETFs have seen 11 straight sessions of net outflows, with over $60 million pulled out in October.
  • SOL needs to clear $107–$108 resistance before testing $114.
  • SOL’s market cap is $62 billion, compared with Ethereum’s $297 billion.

Solana is trading near $106 as of Oct. 21, up about 1% on the day. The token has stayed above $100 after several days of selling. SOL’s record high of $294 came on Jan. 15, 2025.

Buyers have stepped in each time the price dipped toward $100 over the past seven days. Long lower wicks on recent daily candles show those recoveries. The day’s range was $103.72 to $107.93.

Trading volume is about $2.6 billion. Volume rose 1.18% in the past day, which points to more participation. Volume alone does not show whether buyers or sellers will win out next.

Analyst CryptosRus on X flagged the timing of the next big event. He wrote that Solana’s biggest upgrade ever, Alpenglow, goes live on mainnet Wednesday. He said finality drops from about 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds, and that $SOL is “about to get a lot faster.”

Alpenglow Goes Live at Epoch 1064

The mainnet activation is set for Oct. 21 at Epoch 1064. The upgrade has been tested on Solana’s testnet and devnet.

Faster finality shortens the time it takes for a transaction to become confirmed as irreversible. That is different from speeding up how fast transactions are submitted.

Some traders expect a smooth rollout to help SOL reach $150 over the following weeks. That outcome depends on support at $100, a breakout through resistance, and steady demand. A successful launch does not guarantee a price rally.

Solana can already process 1,000 to 3,700 transactions per second on its Layer 1 network. Ethereum’s Layer 1 handles about 15 to 30, and its Layer 2 rollups handle about 200.

Companies including Circle, Visa, PayPal and Stripe use Solana to settle stablecoin transfers and tokenize assets. Moody’s has also added its credit ratings services to the network for tokenized bonds.

ETF Outflows and Chart Levels

Demand through Solana ETFs has been weak. SoSoValue data shows 11 straight sessions of net outflows. More than $60 million has left so far in October, compared with about $272 million of inflows in September.

The daily chart shows the first hurdle at $107–$108, where earlier rallies stalled. A sustained break above that zone puts $114 in focus. Clearing $114 would open a path toward $120.

The Relative Strength Index on the daily chart is below 40, which signals weak momentum. A turn higher in that indicator would show buying pressure improving.

SOL has a 52-week range of $60.40 to $205.03. The token is down about 47% over five years.

Chart check: SOL keeps bouncing off $100, and the wicks show dip buyers are showing up. RSI under 40 says momentum is still soft, though. Until it clears $107–$108, this looks like a base, not a reversal.

Watch next: a daily close above $108 with RSI turning up. That would put $114 in play.

On Oct. 20, SOL was down 1.6% over 24 hours but still trading above $103. On Oct. 21, it was at $105.85, with the Alpenglow activation due later in the day.
